Little OT, but I will try here. Put the rebuild engine back in my F-350 (1989 with a 460), can't get her started. Triple checked the timing, getting fuel, but my spark is not consistant with the timming light. Appear to be getting good fire from the coil, seems to be lost somewhere in the distributor??

After re-reading my post I think I should clarify, I am not getting spark on #1 with every revolution of the motor. Sorry about the poor description.

MH,

Is that one of those "double stacked" rotors/cap in that truck?

I had one of those in an '86 one time that just drove me nuts trying to get the firing order right. Every other cylinder in the order fires on the opposite rotor contact?

Allan

No, just a regular ol Rotor setup, I'm just scratching my head at this point. Think I might try a new distributor module, see what happens.

make sure #1 is on compression then turn till the marks match on the pulley. the look at the rotor. if it is pointing to the tower location of #1, my best guess is a bad cap. Keep us informed. JimN

I've got her set to #1 on the compression stroke. Had some fuel on the head catch fire from an injector leak, messed the cap up (very slightly). I'll try a different cap & see if that helps.

Yeah but Allan is trying to tell you that on some the dist turns opposite direction of others and different firing order. I've seen it happen before and once they got it right it fired right off lol.

OK, see what your saying, I know that this ol girl turns counter-clockwise. I will double check that firing order & make sure I have it right with the rotation.
