Hello folks, we had some freak storms this past summer here in northeren Vermont and during one of those storms, a big maple tree limb broke off and fell on top of my parents 1986 GMC class C 26' camper, it did significant damage to it so it would either take alot of ambition to fix it or it is salvage. There are alot of good parts there, the interior was about like new and the miliage was low at under 70,000 miles, it has an excellent running 350 V8. We have gotten a couple of offers on it, 1 guy wanted the fridge out of it, and another wanted the awning off it, and someone else stopped in towards fall and looked it over wanting to buy it, but they only offered $200 for the whole thing, which I honestly think I could get more for it right at the scrap yard. My parents were hoping to get $1,000 for it, they had paid $10,000 when they bought it back about 11yrs ago. Right now as she sets the LP gas is full and there is 33 gallons of gasoline in the tank, my dad had just filled it up in hopes of going camping the next weekend before the tree fell on it. It still runs, and would drive ok, but the camper body is alittle smashed on the class C overhang, and the windshield is broke. We are temped to just take the $200, but we could get more than that for just the motor, say nothing about the awning, the gas, the interior parts and everything else. Everyone that has seen it says $200 is way too cheap. Is there a camper salvage yard somewheres around northeren Vermont that might take it and give us a halfway decent price?. You look at used RVs and there isn't any such thing as cheap, even a piece of junk thats just as old as this one at the local RV dealer is $10,000 and they really don't get any cheaper. We are looking to get rid of it since we have no intentions of trying to fix it and hiring it fixed would cost more than it is worth, so it would have to be a do it yourselfer and he would end up with a camper for cheap or salvage, but we are talking more than just a couple of weekends of work. I got an uncle who is interested in taking the camper body off and putting a back on the cab since it is one a 1 ton chassis and turning it into a farm tractor hauler, but so far he has only talked about it and hasn't come and looked at it or offer us anything, so I am doubtful that he is going to take it. Anybody have any ideas?.
