Just purchased this 1951 Oliver 77 RC. It is a one owner tractor, that has never been abused. As you can tell it's still in it's work clothes. The plan is to strip it down and do a ground up restoration. Tractor runs good and has a lot of potential to turn out nice. The only problem is that the old M in the shed might get the for sale sign. Can't keep them all! But, we'll see what happens.

Erik

I really don't know much about Olivers, but weren't the Row Crops all narrow fronts? And a wide front would be a standard? Something doesn't look right here.

Nice looking tractor! Should be an easy fixer. The IH looks good also. Do you turn the rear tires around to pull on asphalt? Just wondering why the tread was going the wrong way.

The big pullers tell me to turn around my tires for better traction, and it sharpens them for a clay track. The M is just a stock puller.

Nice looking rig! Looks really nice and straight. I did a frame-up restoration on an 88 a couple of years ago and found out they are not hard to work on at all. That M looks too pretty to sell. Jim

I happen to be friends with an older widow that has a horse farm and she has what i think is an Oliver 66 or 77 about 1949. I think that if someone offered her a couple hundred bucks that she'd sell it to ya, She's been trying to get rid of it for a while now but not alot of Oliver nuts around here, by the way she is very prudent and is not feeble by any means. Block on tractor has crack 6 cyl tricycle design. in Westminster Ma. E-mail me if interested.

If that Oliver is original paint ? I'd hate to see it messed with as something that nice is hard to find ! Pulling on blacktop ? man that's going to tear up the drive train.

I was thinking the same thing at first. Look again at the pix. Rims and grill are painted white. Tractor was repainted with the 770 scheme at some time.

Have fun with your new toy. They have nice smooth power.

Hi Erik;
You have 2 nice tractors there. Its a problem for most of us, which do we keep and which do we sell.
If the IH has sentimental attachment, then thats the tractor to keep. The Oliver is a different tractor, perhaps not so common, and a more unusual exhibit at a show. Maybe the sale of the M may provide enough funds to restore the Oliver, that way it doesnt hurt the wallet too much.
Regards David

COOL tractor!

I've never been an Oilallover guy, but that is definitely on my list of "I want it in my collection some day" tractors!

That Oliver looks real good! Sure a lot nicer than most of the old tractors I have messed with. It looks like it is all there.

When I was a kid, our neighbor had a similar Oliver. He was a retired tractor mechanic who had mostly worked for the localdealer that handled Olivers. He had bought the tractor when it was traded in on a new tractor since it was in such nice shape and he kept it in immaculate condition.

Unfortunately, I was just a little kid, and he would never let me drive the Oliver, even though I sometimes worked for him using our Case VAC. After my neighbor died in the mid-60's, I think his wife sold the Oliver. I always wished that my Dad had bought it, but he really didn't think we needed 2 tractors. I had the impression it was quite a bit more tractor than the old VAC.

Good luck with what looks like a pretty easy restoration!
