Our 2001 F350 PS started acting strange following an electrical storm here in the FL panhandle. Two things showed up the first time I drove it after the storm passed through--1st, the radio or CD player wouldn't play unless I pushed in the clutch. 2nd, the fan motor would work even when the key was turned off. Also, when I first drove the truck, it put out 5 beep tones at two different times. No warning lights, all fuses checked out OK. The radio/CD issue eventually went away--now it works normally. The heater fan issue started back up this morning--fan will stay on even when key is off. Anyone ever come across this? I'm not sure if the lightning storm had anything to do with the truck's behavior or was it just a coincidence...Thanks for any words of wisdom.

Hi Kevin,

I would reset the puter (disconnect both battery's over night) then turn the key on/off a couple times, then reconnect the battery's, negitive cables last.

If that doesn't help, then I'd test the GEM module and that will take a repair maunal or CD manual. I have the CD manual and it works well for me.

If it also rained during the storm, Ford SD pick-ups have a known leak around the windshield gasket that leaks on top of GEM module.

Sounds like she was close enough to a strike that it may have tempolary fused a couple relays . Had my 77 4300 I H semi tractor and 78 est dump trailer hit by lighting and i was no as lucky it blew all the batterys fryed the alt. ,CB scanner , linear amp. all the lights on both tractor and trailer fuel pump selonoid plus it move the trailer almost five feet from where it was setting and made a nice ragged hole on top of the trailer by the tail gate . I think that the only thing that saved the tires was the spare tire hold down chain was touching the ground . Two years latter it go hit again almost in the same spot.

Ford has had quite few electrical issues that can wind up incinerating the vehicle and anything nearby.

Probably the best thing you can do is take it to the dealer. They probably can pull up a whole sheaf of service bulletins, and can hopefully narrow down the problem quickly.

Or, go to Alldata.com, and cough up the credit card for a year's service information and TSB's.

it might just be a coincedence, but i had a toyota 4 runner and had a similiar problem with it one time, took it to the shop and it quit just before i got it there, didnt do it again for awhile, then it started back and a friend happened to be over, he said it was the ground didnt make since to me so he took from the negative battery cable cleaned it up and it quit, me myself wouldnt have beleived it, if the toyota place would have told me that but evidently thats what it was. Electrical things can act mighty strange sometimes, might not be your problem but i would give it a shot and check all the grounds just in case good luck

Yes poor grounds can cause a vehicles electrical system to do all kinds of wierd things. Bad ground to engine, chassis, etc....
