Ebay scam again

I am pretty sure this is the latest scam. Found three tractors on EBay. All have just one bid, bidder is marked "Bidder 1". Kept private so no one can see.

But what doesn't jive to me is that all of these bids are very high, similar to the selling price.

I posted one link below. Or is it just a fancy way to make buyers think at least one person has bid?

Rick

I'll agree with the ford one being a little fishy. They don't offer any info on how to contact them. I don't like spending that much money without seeing the tractor. I always figure, one man's junk, another man's treasure. Not saying that I'm that picky, but I've met some people that are real proud of their junk and think its the best just cuz its theirs. I would bid, but not without asking some questions. What do you guys think about 100% positive feedback? That kinda scares me sometimes. I'd rather have 98 or 99 percent positive feedback. Seems more realistic. No matter how legit you are, there is some a**hole whose gonna let negative feedback because what he bought from you showed up a day late, and its gotta be your fault.

I will NEVER use ebay for anything. My daughter had a bid placed on an item that she did not bid on, and I bid on a dump trailer last year and 4 different people tried to 'second chance' me. If it is so safe, how can that happen twice to one family? No use for it. Besides, my truck was stolen with $6500 dollars of tools on it, and I suspect that they were sold on ebay, because the pawn shops were being watched.

I don't see a problem. This is how Ebay does it now.

I'm not sure why you think either one of those are a scam, certainly look legitimate to me. Ebay now uses a number system rather than names in an effort to defeat the scammers from sending out second chance offers, that's perfectly normal and not a sign of a scam as you imply.
As for the prices you see with just one bid, did you stop to think that may very well have been the starting bid???

rgv,
The reason I think they are suspect. I check the tractor listings usually twice a day. All of a sudden these adds show up out of nowhere and immediately and all have just one bid that to me is rather high.

Cant say for sure they are scams, that is why I posted it for others opinion.

Just doesn't sit in my comfort zone.

Rick

Okeekoke then.
Oh, the Ford was on there last night, I saw it. At that time it had no bids and the starting bid was exactly what the now one and only bidder has bid on it and it has no reserve. Also it has about 4 1/2 days remaining and is a 7 day auction so I can only guess you overlooked it the first few days.
As for the payloader I didn't see that one before but to me it looks perfectly legitimate and if I was in the market I wouldn't hesitate to bid on it. The bid on that one will also be the starting bid. I'm guessing you have never listed anything on Ebay for sale in the past? Whatever you list as a starting bid is what your first bid will be. In other words, put a starting bid of $1.00. Someone bids on it, lets say $5,000.00. It will show one bid of $1.00. That same bidder can bid a dozen more times if they wish and it will continue to always say $1.00. That is until another bidder comes along. Lets say bidder 2 bids $50.00. He would have been outbid since bidder one bid $5000.00 and now the current bid will be $51.00. Now he wants to bid again, so he bids a nice round number of $132.64. He gets a message telling him he's been outbid again and now the price on the auction shows bidder 1 as the high bidder at a price of $133.64. That is if the incriments are a buck, usually they go up as the price goes up. In that cae, it may have been 5 bucks instead but hopefully you get the idea.

rgv,
Sorry to inform you, but I have listed and sold many things on ebay. And I have purchased many also. So I am quite familar with how Ebay works.

I am not going to argue back and forth with you whether they are legimate ads or not. Too me they seem suspect, to you them seem legimate. That is fine. We both have different opinions.

Looking at the rest of the posts, appears about 50/50 that others agree with both of us. Just pointing out something that made me cautious. Doesn't mean that the ads are. I guess the people bidding will be the only ones to know for sure.

If I came off as argumentitive, that was not my intentions and I'm sorry if I gave that impression. Personally when I view an Ebay ad that I think is questionable and feel may be a scam, I click on the "Report This Item" button at teh bottom of the page and it indeed there is a problem Ebay will remove it within 24 hours. Sadly the very obvious ones should be gone in just a few minutes, but I imagine Ebay gets thousands of emails per hour.
Again, sorry if any feathers were ruffled. Certainly not my intentions. I just hate seeing anyone considered guilty and then taken to trial to be proven innocent, after all this is America.

rgv,

The reason I didnt report the ads I wanted to get input from the guys on this site, since I know a lot people here look for tractors too.

Still not sure if they are suspect, so definitely didnt want to start flagging them to ebay.

As you and others have said maybe this will be the way more of the auctions will run, instead of using the older "ID kept private" moniker.

Rick

The idea that ebay scammers are getting is that it"s time to get smarter and more clever with the ads being placed. They spend time researching tractors when they finally find a picture of one to use on ebay, and go from there.

I am going to say that the Ford tractor is highly fishy, as the guy looks like he is Bull****ing the people- "industrial (low profile, wide tread) is good for a ranchette" It made me laugh. However, the hough payloader is highly convincing. The woods in the pic remind me of new hampshire.

Just because a seller doesn't know beans from apple butter about something doesn't mean it is a scam.
