been down with a siactic nerve problem. regular chiropractor got me as far as he could. I could work at the desk but that was it. last thursday something moved in my back and I could just barely move, pain all the time. slowly getting back to where I was. BUT no real hope of getting back to normal.
all started with me falling off of my bike last Oct.

I think I know what they may do to you. I had a catastrophic snowmobile accident about 8 years ago that left me over 1" shorter. What they did to me among many different exercises was put my upper body in a harness that lifted almost all the weight off my feet and had me walk on a treadmill for 10 minutes, built up to 20 and then 30. I had to do this for about 3 months to get back on my feet and walking again. It was scary times in my life. A few seconds of stupidity can cost you greatly for the rest of your life. I have recovered very well but I still have pain if I overexert myself, have always been very active so this is always a struggle for me to slow down. It is harder for me to stand straight, I have to be aware of it and always be trying to stand straight because my back geometery is different now. I also used to be a very fast runner and sprinter and that has been something that I have lost. I can still run but it is much more of an effort. Now I am careful and protect my back like it is solid gold because I know how important good back health is and how detrimental it can be to you if it is bad.

Had two cancer tumors in my spine about 4 years ago now.Radiation and chemo whipped them , but the pain in my spine was really bad after the treatments,Went in for a new proceedure where they injected acrylic plastic in the voids where the tumors had been.Immediate pain relief. They are now using the treatment for crushed vertebrae. Check it out.

I do not know what the table thing you asked about is, so can not comment.

I do however have a small table that you strap your anckles into and it lets you tip yourself upside down, or as upside down as you prefer. Kind of like a teder toder, It works great, just like physical exercise, I should do alot more.

The comments on surgery are no doubt very valid, but I have a brother that was told surgery would never help. The same week he priced wheel chairs a friend made the coment of what do you have to loose? He had the life changing surgery
He still walks hunch back at times--he says when he does he should be kicked as it is totaly a twenty year habit as he simply has no pain anymore. He now jumps out of spraying rigs, plays tennis, basicaly can do anything and no pain whatsoever. He did have a very expensive chair, like a fishing stool, then a soft bar (exactly like a crutch) came up under his arm pit to hold his weight. Another lever dropped the seat out and hung him by the arm pits. He has no regrets buying it as it did help a little.

My dad used to roll up a blacket as tight as possible, lay it on the floor, then lay face down over the blacket (under his belt buckle). I have used it often, does make a diferance.

I do not understand the L system as perhaps I should, but all of these pains in our family are lower back.

I feel for you, it is imposible for some one to explain back pain to another person that has never had one. It certianly makes me appreciate what good health I do have. Best of luck NE IA Dave

I had an overhead industrial door fall on the top of my head. This resulted in compression fractures at two levels in my neck, herniated and bulged disks in lower back. I did not get surgical or chiropractic attention and the thing that has helped me the most is swimming. This may do some of the things that decompression therapy tries to address. There is no one fix.

I have a 5 level fusion in my lower back. I could barely walk before it was done. The type of treatment your talking about may bring temporary relief but is not a long term cure. I had to herniated discs. Since the surgery, my mobility is much improved. But my pain is 24/7. Unlike Old my lifting ability returned to close to what it was. I think just getting on the downhill side of 50 hurt my lifting more than the surgery. Based on my experience, avoid surgery as long as you can. But do not put it off so that you due permanent damage. Good luck with it.

I went in for the decom. therapy. 3yrs. ago I blew a disc, L-5, in my lower back while at work. I saw an ad in the paper about the therapy. I made an appointment and went in. Basically, this is how the machine works. They put a harness on you, and then you're strapped to this table, they tilt the table to target the problem area in your back, also they can treat your neck. The machine can be adjusted for the torque of pull. You are on the machine for about 25 mins. you may feel a slight pull on the harness. The machine pulls, then lets up, then pulls again. You don't really feel any discomfort. After my 3rd. treatment, I felt a definant change in my back for the better. One thing though, Gravity will, eventually take away what the machine does for you as your disc compresses back down. So you might have to make it a regularly scheduled thing. But, maybe becaused your disc is not blown, it could fix you better. It does work. Good luck, Jack

Is this some sort of an inversion table? If so, my dad had bad leg/hip pain, and no doctor could give him any help. For $150.00 he bought himself an inversion table, and it did wonders. He does not use it much anymore, but when the pain starts again, he uses it and gets immediate results. My uncle has a bad sciatic nerve, and he got a table for himself and swears by it!

I guess it is worth a try....I personally think it's all snake oil....but if it works for you, great.

I agree with other here....DON'T let them cut you for back pain. If you have mobility problems or something, maybe....but in many cases the pain gets worse.

I've never had it done but I have had surgery on my back and at all costs do your best NOT to have that done. They removed my L-5 S-1 disc and I haven't been the same since. I'm limited to 35lbs of lifting and the doctors don't want me to drive much and hate it when I say any thing about useing a tractor. I'm also in pain 24/7 and have more pain pills then I have tractors which is bad because I have a lot of tractors LOL

Hey, everyone is different. I had real bad lower back and neck compression problems. I finally got so bad that my spinal-cord root in my neck got just about ruined and I lost most use of my left arm. At that point, I was in so much pain - my attitude was - fix me or kill me. I got operated on - twice. They screwed up the first time and I almost lost my voice. So, now I have several neck fusions - the "extra" parts salvaged from my hip bone. Never got my lower back worked on - however - to answer your question about decompression therapy. Yes - I did it, sort of unintentionally. I broke both my legs in a tractor accident (real bad, one leg was just about severed). So, for half a year I was using a walker or some combo of crutches. Funny thing was - my back never felt better! Almost felt like a teenager again. That because my back stretched out from all that time on crutches. Now?? Been 10 years, and I'm pulling wrenches and building buildings, and my back is as bad as ever. But, I still feel better when I'm moving. Sitting around is a killer.

Is this where you lay on a table and they hook a cable and pull you. I had it when I had a slipped disc. It got me going again, but I have no disc material left in L4-L5 so it won't do anything for that.
