What kind of transmission is in a 3688 is that a syncro six like the 50 series or something else?

Nope, it's the same style as the 706-1486. Difference is the shifting. The TA lever is replaced by an electronic switch on the speed gearshift lever. The speed gears are numbered 1 through 8, with the even numbered gears being direct drive and the odd numbered gears being TA. For example, if you have a 3088 series tractor in low 2nd, it's the same as being in low 1st with the TA lever ahead on a 706. You still have the high/low/reverse lever, but unlike the 86 series, you have an individual park lock lever to the left side of the seat.
