With common sense it will work fine. Several neighbors haul 1486, 4020, etc. all with loaders, fluid, and cast weights on their tandem gooseneck trailers. Don't expect to stop on a dime.

Are there many hills and curves between you and the tractor? I may sound a little blunt, but you can't enjoy your new purchase if you have a bad misfortune hauling it home. There is no comparison when you compare a pickup pulling a trailer versus a real truck when it comes to safety. I personally wouldn't even think of hauling a 1586 with a pickup. The cummins will pull the weight like a champ, but it will use about the same amount of fuel as a diesel truck and if you have to stop fast, or maybe swerve for a car, or come up on a curve a little fast with a pickup/trailer you will be in trouble and if you hit a car you will do just as much damage as a truck would, only if you are in a real truck your chances of coming out alive are much better. I know money is probably tight for you but I think you should budget the cost of hiring a truck to do the hauling in with the purchase price of the tractor. Sorry for sounding a little harsh, but there are times trying to save a few bucks might not be saving us much in the end. Jim

Well they were almost 13,000 LBS dry weight so with fluid and/or weights your looking at over 15,000 LBS but with a dually pickup and a tandem axale trailer you should be alright

If it is a gooseneck trailer, I think you would be alright. That is pushing it though, as the brakes on a pickup arent really made to stop that much weight in an emergancy. I have seen many 4440 JDs towed with pickups around here, (Wisconsin) and the weights are not that much different. I will stress, with care, and caution, I think it will be fine.

I saw somebody say the tractor will weigh about 15,000. I worked for a concrete company in the 80's. The company had F-350 stake body trucks with diesels and a 4 speed trans. I would pull a 580 Case backhoe and tandem axle trailer with electric brakes...pintle hitch...beside having clutches, trans, universals breaking and not being able to stop, I had a lot of fun. The Lord was with me!!! no crashes
