i've seen your posts about the 4020s you wanted to buy. i was thinking does it have to be a 4020? i think their good tractors but for your budget i think their kinda expensive. most 4020s i see bring over $10,000. if you dont mind, i think it would be a good choice to look at some IH tractors. i personally like them better but thats just my opinion. you could check out 706, 806, 966 and most can be bought for your budget. just make sure the t/a works good. its all up to you but thats just a suggestion. i'd like to help save you money in any way

I agree with you D17 man about other reliable tractors for less investment.

Yes the JD guys will say it will be worth more when you sell it. So what.

But farming for a living why have extra dollars invested in machinery when you could invest those dollars in more land or something else.

Example: When I bought my 1086 in 78 for $21,000 I could have bought a 4430 for $27,000.
Those tractors today are worth $13,000 and $19,000. So if you figure the interest on that $6,000 difference over the years why invest the extra money. Either one will get the job done.

I look at kinda like buying a Cadillac to drive or a Chevy. Both will get you there but you can say you own a Cadillac.

Gary

Ya know, I here a lot about how much more expensive Deeres are. I just gought a 4020 for $7000, my friend bought a 856 for $5500, but the difference in the condition of the tires alone would make up the difference in price. A year and a half ago I bought a 3020 diesel for $3500, previous to that he bought a 656 for $5000. There are bargains and rip offs in any make. Buy the one you like, just look for a good deal.

Putting "color wars" aside, the Deeres have superior hydraulics and power steering... nice "operator comforts".

If your talking superior tractors.

I always said if you took the Massy hydraulics the IH engine and the JD rear end and you put them into one tractor then you would have the superior tractor.

(Scroll down to about the 10TH paragraph at the link above.)

It was seen in the "Who's Your Daddy" video.

A quick search did not turn up a photo, and I've got to go look busy for a couple of hours!
