Just looked up new ones on the JDparts website, $625 rigid frame, $750 fold down frame. (And NYS will pay I think 70% or $600 of that.)

Seems to me that if a fella can buy them from Deere for 625 bucks, he ought to grab them. Their cost is likely to be less than your cost to build them, and these one have the certification, which is what COUNTS to begin with. Personally I wouldn't bother putting a roll bar on if I was only using the tractor myself, but to each their own.

Because I don't wear a seatbelt, and if you don't wear a seatbelt, the rollbar isn't going to do anything for you, except mabey pin you under it when you roll. Realistically, mabey 3% of us wear seatbelts on farm tractors? In all my years on a tractor I've only ever seen one person willingly wear a belt. I wear it in my skid steer because nothing functions without it, but it's doubtful if I'd wear it if I didn't have to.
Beyond that, roll bars are often in the way of one thing or another. I don't remove them, but I wouldn't bother installing one either. I'm not much for the statisticts and probabilities of the nanny state that says we're safer with a roll bar either. Safety is no accident. Be safe and you'll never need the roll bar.
Again, to each their own. Take care.

Rod

Sorry, New York State. A program was recently started. Guess they're trying to preserve the few of us farmers that are left. Maybe other states should be encouraged to start, makes more sense than just mandating safety requirements.

Take a look at page 3 of the photo ads (Parts).
They've got one listed for a JD4020 for $600.
I saw one on Ebay last week at $175 and still rising. Not sure what it went for.

Deere and company. Has a campaign to put them on older tractors and sells them at cost. At least a thousand less than the aftermarket companies. But they aren't totally careful when making them. You will need a 3/4-16 tap to clean the weld flash out of the bolt holes before you try to put the bolts in. Been there, done both.

Hey Raleigh!

Glad to hear you're OK!

When I saw the exclamation points in the heading on this post, I figured for sure that you'd already rolled your new tractor off a hill...

ha...
