Here's another picture of the progress. The head is off. Three of the intake valves looked like they were seeing antifreeze, not sure why. My son thought the head might be cracked. We'll find out, it went to the machine shop today. Another picture tomorrow of the "gutted" block. Paul

Maybe a bad or cracked sleeve or orings gone bad leaking? Going to pull the rest of it down too. If so replace all the bearings and if doing the 2520 updates put the newer bearings and balancer shafts in it too not reusing the old ones or you will wish you had. Seen some have to back a 2nd time because those weren't replaced. Seems like there was a update on oil pump and pickup also?

Your mention on the oil pickup tube update got me thinking.I am doing a rebuild, and am needing some info on my oil pick-up tube where it goes into the block on my JD 4-219 engine looks like the one pictured. There is a O ring on the oil pump to tube, but no O ring in the block, where the tube goes in. Looks like a good place for a leak. Stan

Not sure if you can tell by the online parts catalog or not? Might need to ask a JD service manager too. Been too long now but I couldn't remember if we used a whole different pump or just different pickup?
