1955 Case Tractor - Need Your Help

I'm new to this forum and in search of some help. I've been doing some research but having trouble finding what I need.

My husband and I have 24 acres and an approximate 300 ft driveway (most of which is uphill). We are presently looking for a larger tractor to help with snow removal and can't afford much.

We have recently come across a 1955 Case tractor for $800. The farmer who had it has passed away and his daughter just wants to get rid of. She tells me it has a blade and does have hydraulics (not sure what she means). She didn't mention a PTO - is this the same thing?

My questions are these:

I need help on what to look for when we go to look at it.
I need to know if it will handle snow - and take a blower.
I need to know if it will cut hay, move dirt and gravel.

We know very little about tractors and would like to know what to look for.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

J.

pto - power take off use to transmitt power to mowers, balers, snowblowers.

hydraulics- remoter hydraulics are used to move Hydraulic cylinders to lift mowers, discs and turn the shoot on blowers.

3 pt hitch used to attacth and lift all kinds of implements including blades snowblowers plows.

Make sure the tractors starts and runs well and check how the clutch engages and how it goes in gear. Drive it around a little check steering and brakes. Any used tractor will probably take some miner repairs.

Jenny

The most common tractor in the Case line in 1955 was the model 400. This is a very durable and dependable tractor of about 49 horsepower with a 4 cylinder engine and 8 speed transmission. Can be either row crop design or a lower standard model.

These tractors make ideal haying tractors as the 4 lower gears can give the ideal speed for any baling conditions. It has live hydraulics and live PTO, which means the tractor can be stopped with the clutch and the PTO and hydraulic still continue to function. Same applies to heavy mowing and feild work.

Other models made in 1955 include the 200, 300, and 500.

If it is another model, let us know and we can give more specific information... Gene

1955 Case is not enough information. Can you at least give us a model?
