We're supposed to get hit with some snow here in Ma. tonight through tomorrow. The media is hypeing it up like we've never had snow before. Ya gotta love it though, they'll be yuppies all off the highway into the ditch with thier "never been off road" off road vehicles. They go like a bat out of he!!, Because hey I got four wheel drive. Then they find out real fast that four wheel drive don't stop ya all that much better.
Dont be one of these people. Drive safe tomorrow morning.

Last spring I bought (cheap) a cat. one, rotary snow plow, about seven feet wide that looks like it would blow 30-36 inches snow, no problem. Have not had a chance to use it, thank you but know there will come a time.

New York/Oswego got 12 feet this past week in reply to Jim K, 02-13-2007 15:31:16

The area where I own some land up in Northern New York in the Oswego area - by Lake Ontario - got 12 feet of snow in the past 8 days - and it's still snowing. That's pretty hard to top.

So far, 9:00 AM, the 12 - 18" of snow has been a big bust here - NW CT. We have about 2", then it"s turned to sleet. Kids got the first snowday of this winter though, they"re happy -

Dont ya know, the four wheel drive increases the coefficient of friction between rubber and ice. At least that's what the fools think. We're getting all the hype here, too. It is worse than the storm. Dreading something is always worse then just getting on with it and the media hype makes that part worse. They are saying blizzard conditions here in NY, too. SO maybe this will go down as the Great Valentine's Blizzard of 07.

Yup, it's gotta be the yuppies, they're the only ones in the ditch, the only ones that speed, well they are the only ones who beat their wives and kids, the only ones who are deadbeat dads, the only ones who drive drunk, the only ones who drive while on their cell phones, and the list goes on and on. As a matter of fact, those V6 engines in most of them drink about 4 X's as much gas as us country boys in our 350 Chevy's. Don't know how or why, it just happens. Now farmers or country boys? They just never get into any of that crap right?

Now, your message is well taken, take care and drive extra carefully. But you're redneck attitude bothers me and I think you've got to get out of your grade school mentality. Grow up little brother, things ain't all that bad!

Well ya, I gotta admit that I got a bit ugly. But seriously, why is it that the yuppies take the hit for everything? Basically, it's the same all over the world and the cause of most of the world's problems. If someone looks different, acts different, prays different, speaks different, or is different from me ... then of course they're the cause of all the grief. If the whole darned planet were cloned from one person, I sometimes think we'd be better off. Well, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit.

I live in an area that is being populated by new to the country yuppies and most have the reputation they have because they earned it.Complaing about the counry roads,drving twice as fast as they should,being snobs UNTIL THEY need something then they act like a used car salesman in heat et etc etc.

hey hard knocks...if i remember right, yuppy stands for young urban professional something something. the key word being "young". i grew up in the country (many many years ago) and i can remember testing out the engine under my car's hood on those old back roads. alot of young people like to go fast whether in a beemer or an old ford pick-up truck. young people always seem to be in a hurry no matter where they're from, and they sure don't spend a whole lotta time chatting with old farts like me, but does that make 'em snobs? i guess all i'm saying is that there's good'ns and bad'ns in every age group, class, race, and background. i sure hope, with the years catching up to me, that i don't get grouped under the heading as a senile, grumpy old worthless just cuz my hair is turning gray.
oh by the way, if you see a '92 ford 4X4 with the pedal to the metal go by your house, it could be me...i STILL like to feel what that old girl can do once in a while. just funnin' ya...

The big differance between 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive is you are further in when you get stuck.

Here in Duluth Mn. most of the snow is coming from snow cannons for the ski hills. The people plowing snow this year are not doing to well. Theres really no snow in the area to even speak of. Jim WJ

My Pa is 74 and has never owned a 4x4, yet he never missed a day of work ( we live in the country as well) for snow, always went ice fishing on lakes far and near, and he has never been stuck. Up until "98 his truck was a '71 ford 2wd XLT with a heavy topper. He always believed in having the rear tires these"Wide Track SuperThings", drove slow and steady, and slowed down way before you even thought you would have to. He still drives that ol truck to my farm everyday and he beleive that old '71 is more of a truck then my '97 1 ton 4x4 witha 454, heck , he is probably right.

About the only time I get the 4WD out is to pull a load and then it's usually not because I need the traction. It's just because it's a 3/4 ton and my usual chariot is a wimpy 4 cyl. 2WD S-10. When we get some snow, I usually don't have the yard and lane cleaned out before the plow goes by anyway. We haven't had a real three day blizzard where we couldn't get out for a week for about twenty years now so I haven't really needed the big dog to get through the snow. Jim

Here in Northcentral Ohio, We have about 8 inches right now. Still coming down in sheets. They way its a possibility of 16 inches by the time its over. Chills to -10 and gusts close to 35 mph. Our roads out here in the middle of nowhere are drifted shut. We got wood in the basement and food in the cupboards in case something would happen. I guess its here. LOL

That so refreshing - to know someone else understands the real meaning of 4-wheel drive ! I try to explain to new owners of 4 or all-wheel drive vehicles that all it does is get you into trouble faster if you don't know how to use it . Your vehicle still only has four brakes and four wheels just like a two wheel drive does . The only difference being the tread on the tires might work a bit better on a 4-wheel drive vehicle . You can start moving easier but stopping is the same for everyone more or less . I seldom use it unless I get stuck , not using it keeps the false security away . ...Randy

I use 4 wheel to my advantage, and get places I have to go when others can"t. Most of the time, I know when to quit pushing before I get into trouble. For many, 4wd simpy means the tow truck operator needs a longer tow cable!

jim...half them yuppie "so called" off roaders, aren't even 4X4...they're "all wheel drive" big difference. but they won't know that difference cuz they never really "off-roaded". you could make you a lot of money with that rig of yours and a tow strap tonite...80)

im gona have to get my tire chains off the shelf and put em on my P U havent used them in 7 or 8 years better see if they will fit this PU got diffrent wheels on this one.im in ill.jusr sowest of chicago about40 miles got lake snow comming tonight glad i dont have to worry about working ben retired about 18 years now.
