Hi all i am going to try the Electrolysis and i need to know what kind of primer to get. Im still trying to get the darn pistons freed up takeing to long i wanna get it runing that way i can slow some people on this road down that go 45 50 on the dirt road lol any ways i been cleening up the carb it is in good shape been working on the head where the water got to it been puting the pb blaster on it and takeing my brass wire tooth brush to it all most have the rust gone been to cold to do any thing right now it is 21 out side a high for today was 30 just a little cold. In my book i found a guy that said he will jack one rear wheels off the ground and block it up and put it in a gear and move it and it some times will fee up the pistons gonna try and see what happends i cant make it to much worse.

thanks Carson

hey carson...you really should decide on what kind of paint job you're gonna put on your tractor, and what kind of paint and how you're gonna paint it. if you want to just slap a decent coat of enamel, you might want to just go with rustoleum red rust primer. i've used it on some implements i've cleaned up and it does a decent job. if you're looking to make a "show quality" tractor out of it, you might want to go over to the paint forum and start asking questions there...but you better get ready to shell out some big bucks if you go that route.

if you're planning on doing a real top quality rebuild on your engine, you might want to think about taking that head in somewhere and having it checked real good to make sure there's no cracks in it, and that it's nice and flat where it mounts to your block. a little extra money to check it out and make it right now can save a lot of headaches later. spend your money on the mechanical parts and worry about the "pretty parts" later.

i sure hope you get that engine broke loose, don't get too carried away trying to break it thru the tranny...you might mess something else up. keep us posted...

Hey mike how are you. I hate to take the head in b/c i hafe to go 40 50 miles away my friend he use to work in a shop that did all of that stuff i think the head is flat i put it on a peace of glass and it was fine all the way aroud thats the bad thing in this town there is hardley any place hear that can help me but there is 2 tractor places hear one is a Ford place. I do have a paint spryer i know ill take it to some shows not to meany mostley car shows im in a car club that has a show ever hear and thay have a class that is call"d "special interest" most ever car show has that one and i think!!! i woud use it to cut hay just stuff like that. The bumper on my old 71 ford was in bad shape with the old paint so i sanded it down all the way and i used the rustoleum primer and ever thing it is gloss white and it looks like you can put your hand thrue it but where i went wrong i put to meany layers of paint on it i think there is lil over 15 layer with the primer and ever thing lol ever one tell"s me i have the whitest bumper in the countey. I did not think aobout messing up the trans dang it ty for telling me that. But if i can get the parts primed ill be ok i dont want it to get rustey once more. Thanks mike

carson...i really wasn't too worried about you messin' something up in the tranny, but i could see the possibility of messing up a connecting rod or two by jamming that much weight thru it to a solid stuck piston. i think your theory is ok...something would probably "give" loose, i'm just not sure what. maybe one of these other guys will chime in and tell us if i'm right to worry or worried about nothing? by the way...have you thought about trying the boiling water trick i told you about? like i said, i've never done it or seen it done, but i've had several people tell me it works. maybe some more guys will chime in here and say what they think...fact or fiction?

you've never said where you live. you must be way out in the "boonies" like i am...the closest anything to me is at least 25 miles away. keep pluggin' away on that farmall.

take care buddy,
-mike

well carson...now you're asking me what "i'd" do, but that might be different than what you want. but since you asked for my thoughts on the subject, here you go: first of all i'm on a limited budget when it comes to my "hobbies", so the first thing i would think about as far as where to put my money would be into making sure i have all the mechanics working and right and safely, and all the right parts. a pretty tractor that doesn't work well is just an ornament, and i like to have my machinery work well for me. i hate breaking down in the middle of a job. second, i use my tractors for work. so i sure don't want to put a whole lot of money into a "showroom" paint job just to take it out and get it all scratched and torn up bush-hoggin' briars and small trees. personally i'd go with the rustolem red rust primer and a good quality enamal paint. i might even go as far as putting a hardner in the second color coat so it wouldn't be "green" so long, but i don't know. either way i wouldn't be dumping a whole lotta money into a paint job not many people are ever gonna see without scuffs and scratches. i'm sure you'll get varying opinions from alot of the guys on this forum about my choices of paints, but you did ask me what i would do, and that's it. when i comes to paint, i don't have any expertise, but i've used this paint combo on several thigs i've painted and have had pretty good results. good enuf for me anyway. but the bottom line is, you're the only one the knows what you want to use your tractor for and how much you have, and are willing to spend on it. i'd get several ideas and opinions if i were you, and then decide which one fits you best. i hope this helps you decide what you want to do. get that little A workin' bud...

Many options, sort of depends a bit on what kind of paint you are going to put over it.

A lot of info on such stuff in the painting forum.
down at the bottom of the first forum list you will see:
"show all forums"
hit that and you can get to the paint foruns and others as well.
