A neighbor of mine has offered their tractor to me. It is a 1973 John Deere 830. 3 cylinder diesel good tires, tight steering, very well taken care of. The only thing is it will need a clutch before too long. Any idea on parts and labor for the clutch, and what a descent idea on price would be? They offered it to me only for $2000. Should I jump on it or what? Jeff

Exactly what the others say, you should hand him the cash even before you read this. Yes I'm scolding you for not jumping on it. NE IA Dave

That is a really good price. Great little tractor and easy to work on with parts easy to find. Pretty close to the same thing as a 1020 Ag or 300 Ind. but with somewhat different hydraulics. My neighbor has two 830s - had them since new. I know for sure he was offered $5000 for one of them last year and would not take it.

John Deere made a compact tractor and numbered it 830 and it did have a 3 cylinder motor.

Why JD ever started using there numbers over I will never figure out.

I think maybe some folks are missing the fact that the tractor was built in 1973??

Yeah, but its the same price as a mediocre condition 8N Ford, and is 3 times the tractor. Such a deal.

much as I dislike green and yellow that is one fantastic price on a solid tractor. If you think it is too much step back away and let others know where it is and it will be gone now

I think you should re consider taking that beat up old green thing. Repairs are going to cost you. Tell you what I'm going to do, just tell me where it's at and I will go and sacrifice my self and relieve you from the temptation. I'll take it for the team. (Seriously, get after it.)
