It's time to renew my Anti-virus software and I think I want to upgrade. I am currently using Norton and I have heard there is better stuff out there. I was wondering what all of you are using.

Thanks

Jerry

Sounds like AVG is the favorite but how can they give it away for free?

They have a pay version with more bells and whistles, also other types of software. This is kind of a loss leader like Walmart has! LOL

I, too, am an avid AVG subscriber. I came from McAfee to Norton to AVG and AVG is the most impressive to me. Been with it 12 months now and never a problem. But, Norton was good too, just not free. Just DON'T go without one!!!!!

One more vote for AVG. It does update every few days, but I doubt it would be much less efective if not up to date. You can shut the auto-update off. I ran and used Norton for years, but now, don't load the complet system thing. Only load the antivirus. Why do these new programs want to do every thing and take over the computer? Nero 7, the CD/DVD burner is now 140-some meg.--no way.

I dumped the Norton, it kept trying to take over my computer and I couldn't do anything until it was done. I went with the AVG, it has been able to clean up some problems that Norton couldn't (or wouldn't).
No problems with the AVG on dial-up. Just recently went on DSL, and it works just fine.

We had AVG for a few weeks - I can't recommend it if you have dial-up. I had trouble with the automatic updates (daily or weekly) that would start automatically and lock up system resources and modem bandwidth.

Staying with Norton. Also have CA Antivirus running but CA doesn't play well with Norton or Outlook Express (so all the automatic stuff on CA is shut down).

P.S. I also periodically run AdAware to clear out tracking cookies.

I was told you should never run two antivirus softwares on the same computer. As for AVG, never thought of that problem with dial-up. Works fine on DSL, cable, and satellite.

Dump the Norton! It's a RAM hog and they make you pay every year for upgrades. I use AVG Free by Grisoft. I haven't had any problems with virii or other such pests.
