My SIL is a brillant computer programmer, takes good care of my daughter and son, so I have no real complaints. However, he is NOT a mechanic. He just has no interest. He has a low time, like new JD 332 diesel garden tractor. Last summer he complained that it was running hot. While visiting I serviced it, showed him the screen in front of the radiator (with an inch of grass in front of it) and told him to keep it clean. That fixed the heat problem. All went well until he decided to clean that screen again. He also decided that the engine was dirty and he would spay that off too. The engine was hot; he heard a loud crack when the water hit the engine. When the steam finally quit there was oil and antifreeze dripping off the pan. He could not see the source. He wants me to go there and fix it. I could use any BTDT advice as to wether the block or head broke, is it worth fixing, fix old engine, find used engine, availability, where to look, etc. I don't even know what tools to bring. I live in the mountains west of Colorado Springs and he is in Gardner, south of Kansas City. Since all you guys are in the grips of cabin fever, I am sure you will jump right on this.
