Well my wife was coming home from the store and she just about made it home when coming up the last hill, at about 45 mph, she heard a "pop" and her 95k mile 2000 Grand Voyager coasted to a stop. No drive at all, no reverse, won't move, nothing. Put it in park and she stays put. Engine sounds good in park but when we put it in gear and give her some gas she pops & sounds likes its missing and backfires - very strange. Back to the transmission problem - Fluid color looks good, smells good and is at the full mark. Dropped the pan and examined the filter - doesn't look too bad at all and only slight amount of sludge on magnet. Tranny was changed out at 36k when old one blew out a bearing so this one has nearly 60k on it and had fluid and filter changed at 30k. Any ideas on what may have happened? Didn't notice any problems with transmission until it quit. Thanks.

My 95 Plymouth Grand Voyager tranny just went out. It has 130 odd thousand miles on it. I took it in to a local shop and had it overhauled as the motor and rest of the unit are good. The clutches were worn for sure, but what made it suddenly quit was the factory, plastic cylinder that shifts it. It finally broke and all pressure went. The shop replaced it with a new steel cylinder as well as the rest of the goodies. I'd say it's that same cylinder. Good luck. My overhaul cost me $1,000 with a 12 month/ 12,0000 mile warranty.

Head over to allpar.com and join the forums and post this up on the minivan forum. Bunch of helpful folks that have had their vans apart pretty much end to end.
