Being new to the tractor hobby, I have to ask the experts. Do you know if a belt pulley was an option on a 1956 JD 420. If so, where does it attach?

Cheers! Bill

Never seen one on a 420 but isn't why they put a PTO on them later? If they had one it probably bolted on over the PTO with a right angle gear box. They made such for later JDs into 60s as an accessory option.

That thing on the right side in front of the rear wheel fastened to the crankshaft that turns is the belt pulley. You are kidding arent you.

No Gene, I am not kidding. This 420, like all the other 420s that I know of, doesn't have a horizontal transverse crankshaft and there is no "thing on the right side in front of the rear wheel."

Thanks for your reply.

yes i forgot about that model do you need one as the neighbor deals in that stuff as they mounted on the pto area and when that tractor came out grinding feed with a small tractor was not popular as everyone had a larger more hp machine pluss grinder-mixers were getting more popular as farming was changing fast.

Yes, Gene, I would like to have the contact with your fellow who deals in such things. I would like to see a photo of it. Also, to the guy who says his 420 has two belt pulleys on it, one front and one rear, I would like to see a photo or photos of that. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you both for the response.
