Question for all of ya'll

Why is it when someone (me) passes on positive information about a product or company they get accused of getting kickbacks for the info. First example-I posted last night about a really good experience I had with a company, as well as providing what I thought was some just plain good info for ya'll. I work on all types of equipment, from lifting cranes to lawn mowers, day in and day out, and I'm always running into new stuff and having to do the research to figure out what's going on. When I find something interesting or whatever I try to pass it on and save someone else the headaches I went through. I got several nice responses to my post last night but there had to be one that accused me right off of getting a kickback from the company, as well as telling me that the products in question were available elsewhere. I don't know what part os sole US distrubitor that person didn't understand but what that means is that all those other places have to buy from the company in question. They then put their markup on it and sell it to everyone else. Personally I preffer to go straight to the source and save a buck whenever possible.----- -Second example-Awhile back I recomended a certain brand of oil and grease that I and several of my customers have had great success with. I guess because I spoke of it in such a positive manner, again I got accused of getting kickbacks. Heck it's good stuff, did the people who accused me want me to lie?----- I think the only thing I've strongly recommended on here, that I didn't get accused of getting a kickback for, was the Swench Wrenches..... ya'll didn't know I had a deal with Ebay did ya'll. I've made a killing off all those auctions...LOL.... ----Seriously, what is it with some people that they automatically have to think your being compensated by a company if you recomend their products. This is the real world folks, not Hollywood, and I'm a skint knuckle field mechanic, not Brad Pitt. If I find something good that saves me money and I can steer one of my customers, or anyone else for that matter, in the right direction and save them some money too, that, to me, is just being a good person. I guess whatever is going on there always has to be one in the bunch though and that's what makes the world go 'round. Ok, just had to vent, I'm done now. Hope ya'll all have a great weekend.....

Would have been nice to know you when I had to produce a long paper that took time away from better things to do in my youth. Aside from that I keep a written a log not a blog on info and web sites that I may use later - so I pick what will be helpful and let the rest slide. It's like a blue JD someone will think it great. Saw one in Bristol, Il always wondered what happened to it?

I think it was Mark Twain who once noted that when a cat sat on a hot stove, it learned to fear a hot stove - and that was a good thing. The unfortunate part was that he would also be afraid of a cold stove. I guess there are just lots of "cats" out there who have had their rear-ends scorched by bad advice and are now afraid of all advice.

I wouldn't worry about it too much...

For all any of us know - maybe they represent the competition and are just trying to knock you for working against them.

I always appreciate hearing other's advice and experience - I compare it to my own experiences and training and decide what to believe and what to forget.

Howard

Wayne,

"Who are you working for, and whats his name?"
Just kidding, an old movie quote from somewhere.

I read this board daily, and cant begin to tell you how much I learn. I wanted to get into farming and dont really have a teacher. So these forums let me ask my "dumb" questions.

There are always 1 or 2 people that just never have anything nice to say and just wantt to prove they are grouchy. Oh well, just ignore them they will find someone else to argue with.

Rick

..."i got several nice resposes last night, but there had to be one..." etc. etc. Vern...just ignore the accusation if you know it's not true, and focus on the "nice responses". it tells you you did someone some good! in other words...don't sweat the small stuff.

be happy,
-mike

Don't worry about it and please keep the tips coming. I believe it has to do with the corrupt world we live in where nobody trusts anyone any more.

Vern is correct, some people cannot understand why anyone would do anything, unless there was money involved. Some of us old-timey folks still like to help others out, though. Everything is not all about money.. Just to set the record straight, I know Wayne. and consider him a friend. His occupation is that of a heavy equipment mechanic. He likes to pass along things that he learns to help others. Wayne gives lots of good advice, especially over at the Dozer board.
