Whats the word on the bigger engine? Is it a bigger version of the 5.9, or a completely different beast? I don't stay up on the latest and greatest, but I think anyone with an old tractor dreams of hauling it around the country behind a major league diesel truck. No brand wars please!

Same engine different stroke. Same stroke as a 4.5 liter 4b. If any one knows what im talkin about Cummins made 2 different 4 cylinders that was exactly the same other than the stroke back in the old mechanical days. well 2 generations later it hit the 6 cylinder. 5.9 or 6.7 both have a 4 inch bore.

The way the sales guy at my local dealer described it is that the new engine will have a longer stroke and a bigger bore. The idea is that it will provide slightly more power, will run at a lower RPM, will be more efficient in fuel consumption.

I have no opinion on the 6.7 until I see one with 200k miles that still doesn't burn oil and has been dead-reliable.

The old reliable 5.9 12-valve with mechanical pump, etc. is #1 in my book... for now, anyway.

I think this is an entirely new engine, as opposed to the ORIGINAL 5.9, which has been sold around the world, for any applications. I think I would want to wait a year or 2, to see how they work out. Personally, I think the old 160 HP 5.9 was one of the best engines ever made.. I know they had to satisfy the need for more power, as well as EPA emissions, but I hated to see them go to all the electronic pumps and gizmos..

i was just on the dodge site today and noticed that the 6.7 and 5.9 are both availible. i think the 6.7 is a 5.9 that is bored out and stroked more to keep the power the same with all the new emmisions equipment thats required now. i personally would rather have a 5.9 because im still young and i like 'em loud. the new 6.7 is supposed to be very quiet

I had intended to get one of the new Dodge/Cummins, The horsepower and the torque ratings are basically the same as the old 5.9 used in the start of the 2007 model year. The price for the Cummins option has jumped fron $5500 for the 5.9 up to $6000 for the 6.7 engine. Think I will wait, my old 1997 12Valve Cummins runs better all the time at 182,000 miles.

Just bought a 2006 5.9- have 1567 miles on it, sure seems like it would take some real engineering to make a better one. :-)

Dodge will also launch a 4500/5500 Cab/Chassis. The 6.7 has zero diesel particulate. No visible smoke at anytime. It also comes with an exhaust brake (part of the turbo)
