Just bought a ford 5000 deisel it looks rough but runs good with some blow by when it heats up good . I,m looking to use my 5000 to maintain a half mile of dirt road with a scraper blade and also other light projects around four acres.I need help identifying fluid levels the transmission has a dip stick but the rear end has a seperate plug down low on the housing and a fill cap above on the top of the housing right back of the seat. I want to know are these two different reservoirs as it seems i have determined, don't most tractor use the same fluid for both.

It uses the same oil in both places, use a good transmission/hydraulic oil that meets NH 134 specs. Do yourself a favor and get an operators manual. You can get them here on this site, go to the column on the left.

Our early model 8 spd had a plug on the side of the transmission,by the step plate on the left, fill to overflow. Same with the rear end. You do wish to use the right stuff, the brakes are wet.

Be sure to service the injector pump, it has its own sump and lube, change it out with the engine oil.

Visit your dealer and get the right oil, or get oil that you know meets the ford spec.

Memory is hazy, but I think you got another compartment for hydraulic too, that may be the one for the dipstick.

I don"t have a Ford 5000, but I"m sure its like my 871. The large plug just behind the seat is for the rear end lube (gear oil). I think 80/90 is sufficient. Fill until it comes out the pipe plug on the side.

The transmission is seperate. If you have an SOS trans it uses NH 134 hydraulic oil.
