Lamebrain drivers!

Going down the road with a round bale on the FRONT of the tractor. Rear of tractor had nothing on it so flashers would not be obstructed. The road I was going to turn off on to get to pasture was maybe 1/2 mile from my drive way. Well in advance of the turn I turned off flashers and turned on left turn signal. Watched in rear view mirror as car pulled out to pass is spite of my turn signal, which was working, and the double yellow line AND the blind curve ahead. Let that car go by and pulled part way off on the right shoulder as 4 or 5 more cars went by, further into curve by then. And we wonder why there are so many wrecks here. This was about 3 pm BTW, clear sunny 80 degree day.

Understand exactly! I got hit turning in my driveway a year ago in January. NH TL-90 with loader and loaded tires saved me. Guy hit me at 50-60 mph, on the back corner of the left tire. Put me up on three wheels, and pretty much totaled his ride. Blinkers on and eye contact made. Cops told me to make sure of eye contact in future. I did, and almost got hit 3 more times in the next month. Now I start weaving like crazy, just as my FIL has done for fifty years. He says it slows up the dumb ones quicker than warning flashers. It works.

I just hate driving a tracotr on teh road way. Its even more fun with a old 510 slow Massey combine. But there they sure can not miss that beast that covers from one side to the other. When I have been out on a tractro I have bben tempted to care some small baggies of freash cow fertilizer. this way I could not be a bad person but not giving out free samples of the good product I use on my land. You think they would slow do for a free bag, or should tossing it work best. Check your state law before tossing this maybe a offense in some states. I know wiscosnin is one of them.

when driving a tractor on a public road pretend your riding a motorcycle ,they don't see them either.

Had a family friend last year just about killed in a semi and farm tractor wreck. he was going from his house to his mothers on JD 5410tractor and went to turn into the driveway semi went to pass on double yellow line at the same time he hit the tractor in front of the left rear tire broke tractor in two pieces and put the driver in the hospital for about a month or more with lots of surgery and recoop still is not 100%. the Son in law was behind the semi going to pick the guy up and take him back to his pick up saw it all. every body just has to be careful and watch what every one else is doing.

I always laugh when I read posts like the ones below. Funny how everyone (including myself) always thinks that they're the best driver on the planet. Truth is, we've ALL done the same stupid things we talk about here and other drivers cuss us just like we cuss them. But, even with all of us great and safe drivers on the road, so many of us still manage to get speeding tickets and get into accidents. If we know that there are so many crappy drivers out there, maybe we should be even MORE careful than we are now. Bottom line, we're all in this together and for the most part we are all as good or bad as the next guy !!!

Turn signals on tractors don't mean much,there all different,in different places,there's no standard.Tractors never had turn signals till a few years ago,most drivers are not aware they exist.

I feel your pain, part of our farm is on a busy, winding State highway. But pulling to the right and giving more room for the idiots to pass sends the wrong message. I use ALL of my lane ALL of the time. My boss and I pay enough taxes to entitle us to that.

My SIL works about 7 miles from home. My brother says she makes at least 3 cell phone calls on the way home from work. Tell me she is paying attention to her driving.

It"s bad enough driving my pick-up truck around here let alone a tractor. Everybody drives 10-15mph over the speedlimits including the cops. 9 chances out of 10 if you see someone do something stupied while driving they"re yakking on the cell phone. And I"m not being sexist but I have bad luck with being behind or in front of one of the soccer moms in an suv thats always late for somthing and always has someone to talk to on their phone. If any of you guys ever head my way be careful on the road.

In a rare turn of events recently, a driver of a car crossed the center of the road, hit a large farm tractor head on and his car went under the front of the tractor. He was killed, the tractor operator was injured, but not seriously.

I know what you mean, I drive ohio to fla and texas, the 4 wheelers cant wait to pass then they slow down and either turn left or talk on cell phones. they think we can stop on a dime i guess.also they pull in front of us off side roads and ramps. course i seen other 18 wheelers drive like some 4 wheelers, cell phones is the worst of problem drivers. i drive my farm tractor on roads around here in ohio but most drivers are courtesy and usually wave at you.

Just displaying how conservative they can be by not using more resources than necessary to get the message across. Or being only 20% as friendly as they could be with a full wave.

yup, never ceases to amaze me the absolutely stupid things people do behind the wheel. excessive speed, foolin around with too much electronics in the vehicle, yacking constantly on the cell phone. all it takes is one split second, you can kill yourself or another driver. life is too short, you only get one chance, i would hate to go out on a stupid driving error. guess some people just dont see it that way, until its too late.
