I just bought a western diesel 50 hp chip for my 2000 powerstroke followed the directions and put it in and now the wait to start lite wont come on pull it out and works. The directions say it is in limp mode but it doesnt tell me what to do about it. I didnt know if any one else has had any problems with putting in a chip is there something I can check. Thanks in advance.

I put a bullydog programmer in my 2000 stroke. Hoping for better mileage. It had 50, 70, 120 hp. settings. It definitely gave it more power. No better mileage. Started harder, idiot lights started coming on. Leaked more oil than usual. No idea why. After talking to a couple mechanics, decided to remove it. Don"t know about chips. Hope yours works for you. Buy a Chevy Duramax and forget the chip because you will not need one!

Hate to say it but my 2005 powerstroke had 5000 miles on it when it died in heavy traffic. Restarted, would only go 5 mph. Deputy told me I couldn't drive on the shoulder which I was doin'. After she left went 'nother hour until came to hill and could not go. Called my son and towed year old truck with old cadillac. John law said I had 5 minutes to get outta their sight or they would tow and bill me. Ford people were very nice about it, but would not tell me the prob lem. I had heard about electronic throttle causing this, but never confirmed. I can tell you the gas pedal has no cables or linkages, only small wires and connector. Tried to put ice cream stick in throttle body but no luck. Any emergency tips for this would be appreciated.

dave my 96 done that very thing with 4400 lbs of crushed corn on it as I was feeding one day. About 5000 miles. The dealor sent for it and worked on it for a week, they were even taking parts off new truck to try and fix mine. As it turned out it was a sensor of some kind that had detected dirty oil, they changed oil twice and it got to were it would start and run. It done this a couple times and I would change oil and it ran fine. After that it never done it again. I have seen several Fords with power strokes setting on side of road puffing white smoke and I assumed they were having the same trouble. Mine has not done again since 1997. I think if you change your oil it will work. Just my experiance with mine.

Throw that damned thing away!

When I worked for Ford, the only Powerstrokes that EVER had any trouble was the ones that the owner's had chipped.

My Opinion,

Allan

If you could really get a 50 horsepower increase with just a "chip" don't you think Ford would have already done it?

Yea Right! and if they would listen to Navistar, who built the engine, there would be no need for the chip. Its all bull warranty junk. They fiqured if they cut back the power they wouldnt have to do much warranty work.A chip can work wonders for these engines IF they are used properly and not just thrown in for a sudden hot rod rush. Like I said below, I have run the DP chip with 4 setting in the 80 hp setting for 53000 miles and have had ZERO problems. The chip doesnt hurt these engines, the idiot driving does! Some people just dont understand the technology, and think you cna only get 15 or 20 hp with a chip, when 120 hp or more gains are possible on a stock engine.

If Ford followed Navistar's lead, the Powerstroke would have less not more power. The experts will tell you that many of the problems with the 6.0 are caused by Ford's programming on these engines. The same engines with different (more conservative) programming are not having the same problems in International trucks.

As for the chip problem, they sent you the wrong chip. It is for a different programming strategy than what your truck has.

Youre right to a point. On the 7.3, Navistar recommnds 75 to 80 psi on the injectors, Ford runs 65. To make up the difference in power loss, Ford used prgramming, which the 7.3 doesnt like. Most of the aftermarket chips address this, and change timing and other parameters to make up the difference. The result is the ability to run in higher HP setting. I dont have a clue on the 6.0s as I avoided those from the get go, but as I understand it, it wasnt nessecarily the programing, but the rush to get a new untested engine into the Ford, with Fords programming, etc on the engine. One of my neighbors just traded off his early 04 250 6.0 because of the problems he kept having, but his work truck, an 03 International with 6.0 has yet to visit the shop for a repair.

the chip wasnt programmed for your specific computer. this is the chip you need right here. I have one in my 01.53000 miles with this chip and no problem whatsoever.

Off topic but concerns Ford Power Stroke Diesels. I have a gripe when Craftsman Nascar Truck Racers talk about their Ford Power Stroke Diesel race Trucks. They may be sponsored By Ford Power Stroke Diesel but not powered by a diesel engine. A lot of T.V. fans might not know that.A close friend of mine thought they were diesel powered. E nuff said

Good thing they arent diesels. I couldnt see a diesel turning 10000 RPMS and lasting very long.

I agree with RusselAZ. Why monkey around with a good engine. My 96 F-350 with power stroke has 268,000 miles on it and it runs as good as when new.

The best thing you can do for your powerstroke is beat that "chip" with a hammer and leave it lay on the anvil.

Or, send it back to where you got it and tell them it doesn't work.
