ford 5000 was low on fluid in rearend after filling it to the correct level at the check plug on the lower left side of the rearend housing the pto stopped working. any suggestions where to start troublshooting.

What's not working? Does it turn aimlessly with no power? Not turn at all? Can it be turned by hand with the engine off? Does the tractor have Dual Power? There's a multitude of possibilities that range from bad to worse. It would also help to know what year the tractor is...

don"t know year model. everthing else works fine . can not turn pto with engine off . I did drain fluid last night and befor i had refilled all the way the pto turned probably ten revolutions then stopped again

sounds to me like your check cleared the bank. You'd be suprised how many things can go wrong when that happens. I would look for any levers or linkages around the areas you were working. Odds are you may have accidently bumped something, or leaned on a control linkage and bound it up. I had a 4000 and nothing I could do could hurt that tractor, other than head gaskets...I had the 4 cyl eng. Mike

Check the PTO lever to make sure you didn't accidently disengage it.

the PTO quit before or after you filled the rearend ? Also does the 3 point lift still work ?

Umm sounds like time to split the tractor between the tranny and the rearend for access to the PTO clutch....
