Hydraulic Req'd for Backhoe

I have a Ford 345C tractor/loader and I bought a Bradco 11HD for it. The tractor has an 8 1/2 gallon reservoir on it for the loader. I would like to route hydraulic from the loader valve to the backhoe. Is the 8 1/2 gal reservoir adequate for the backhoe that requires 9-14 gpm flow?

If you are planning on using the backhoe occasionally, it is likely enough. Expect for the oil to heat some, but that will be relevent to the amount of work you are planning to do. I would not expect this kind of setup to be ideal for commercial use.

Would you think that I could run it like that for a few hours? Can I add a reservoir to the backhoe that works with the reservoir on the tractor?

Generally speaking everything will probably work fine. Opperating a backhoe requires more feathering of the hydraulics plus using 2-3 cylinders at the same time, this is what generates heat. If you are at all familiar with how the hydraulics should be plumbed you will likely have a very servicable unit.

Tweeter, I did something similar with a smaller tractor/hoe. Assuming your reservoir is sized for the hydraulic pump, you'll be fine. If you can do sustained loader work, you'll be able to do the same with the hoe.

You didn't say what size pump you've got but I found that while my loader works fine, my pump makes the hoe a little slow. I end up working at high engine rpm to make it up. Even so, no problem with my hydraulic fluid overheating even with prolonged backhoe use. I've used mine commercially.

The pump on my tractor pumps 26 GPM. The people at Bradco told me that I will probably have to run the tractor at half throttle or the backhoe will be too quick. That is exactly what I wanted. They also said that the reservoir on the tractor will work fine. They do not make a PTO pump kit for the 11HD but they plumb the backhoe hydraulics from the loader valve using a diverter valve.
