I usually have good luck getting parts in the mail that I've purchased. One time I had a gear fall out of the box that wasn't taped up good that was shipped thru the mail. I was out of luck there on any refund. Now there is a shipment of parts that hasn't shown up at all thru the mail. I purchase several items from these sellers and have not had problems before. What's customary between a buyer or seller on refunding money when the parts don't show up?

I have very little faith in USPS any more I had an accident in my pick up the first of the month turned it in to the insurance and they cut a check through the mail Check was wrote and mailed on the 3rd I recieved it on the 22nd needless to say the insurance had stopped payment on that one and mailed a new one got them both the same day.The checks were mailed from Jefferson City, MO I can drive there in an hour and a half. Last month it took ten days to get my cpntract pig check from the next town I was getting nervous on that as i needed it to pay the monthly bills.

Shipper has all the control over how well an item is packaged for shipping. If the box isn't adaquate, shipper should stand good for the item. Refund or replace. But that's in that ol' "perfect world".

ups & fedex [others too i'm sure] have tracking #'s on every box. Everytime that bar code gets scanned, you can see it at ups.com - A company shipped 400.00 worth of my planer knives to the wrong place, they in turn sent them to another wrong place. I finally got them, but without that bar code to find & track that box, they would have been history.

I purchased a sock for a fuel pump at NAPA. The box had obviously been opened at least once before. The owner checked the box,I saw the part, I paid for it and went home. Opened the box and found it be empty. When I went back to that NAPA store, they were willing to sell me another one, but no discount or price break. I now have stores tape boxes shut that have been opened previously, and have not returned to that NAPA.

Not exactly the same problem you have, but sometimes we have to move on and be more careful the next time. "If you loan a friend $20 and you neversee him again, it was probably worth it"

Don't know how long you have been waiting, but one of the guys on another board waited 32 days for a shippment that finally arrived in good condition. Needless to say, both the buyer and seller were relieved.

I know how that is. I ordered garden seed from Henry Fields, and after a few weeks I got an email saying that my package had been shipped. 16 days later I sent them an email informing them I had not yet received my seeds. Then the PO delivered them the next day.

The kicker is they were shipped from our county seat, I can be there in 20 minutes. The shipment took 17 days to go less than 17 miles.

My very little experience has been that it depends on the seller, and how good a customer they feel you are...but my real reason for commenting is that on US mail, there's a "proof of delivery" (my terminology may not be correct) for a usually quite small charge that I believe is supposed to avoid these situations (you can't prove you didn't get them and they don't know whether to take the loss on their end if they mailed them in good faith). Perhaps others have used this and can advise if I have the right understanding; not any help now, I know, but I thought you might not know this existed. I assume the PO has some procedure to locate "lost" packages (the PO machinery had a reputation for awhile of mangling packages to the point addresses sometimes couldn't be determined). With sympathy.

Delivery confirmation will cost 50 cents, and is free with the on-line "click and ship". Signature confirmation requires the signature of the recipient upon delivery, and I think that will cost $1.00. Either one of those is pretty cheap insurance and will keep people honest. Full insurance is not that expensive either. I will not ship anything without using the delivery confirmation, and in most cases, will not ship without insurance.

Insure them next time. Then they can be tracked and you can file a claim if anything is lost or damaged.

Ask the shipping company about their insurance policys before buying. Fed Ex says that if they determine it wasn't properly packaged and it is lost or damaged they won't pay.
