I was wondering if anyone knew if the turbo wastgate actuator had a spring in it to return it back after the vacuum was taken away from it. Mine doesn't have one and I am not sure if it needs one. Thanks for the info.

If your vacuum pump wastegate actuator solenoid are functioning properly; the wastegate will be held tight shut when the engine is idling or running at max boost or less.

It will "go limp" at shutdown; once the vacuum bleeds away.

Jay, The vacuum actuated wastegate does not have a spring. The actuator for the trucks built before 1994 and other non-computer applications does have a spring.

Actually the spring doesn't return the wastegate it holds it shut. The pressure from the turbo pushes against the spring and at a preset pressure begins to open to prevent overboosting. On the '95 and up vacuum holds the wastegate shut and a computer controlled solenoid releases the pressure to avoid overboost... no need for any spring here since vacuum closes it and boost opens it. To make sure yours is working ('95 and newer anyways) while it is idling try to move the little arm, it shouldn't move any without a lot of pull, if it moves really easily something is nonfunctional. Ask if you need any help.
