1963 1600 Oliver is experiencing horrible clutch slippage even in low range gears and the pedal engages way at the top. I noticed a hydraulic leak mixed/next to a motor oil leak which appears to be near the rear main but I can't pin point it. Is there a good way to view the clutch without disassembly? Does the tractor need to be split to replace the clutch? Is it possible it only requires adjustment (if it isn't oil-soaked)? What is the best way to adjust the clutch and is adjusting it going to affect the over/under?

Thanks in advance!

ll

If it hasn't gone too far, you might be able to split the tractor, fix the leaks, soak the clutch in gas, let dry and reassemble. However if your going to do all that labor, I'd put in a new clutch and t.o. bearing too. Time is too valuable to do a half a** job!

Whoa whoa, hold the phone! I was going to wait and let somebody on the Oliver forum answer all the questions, but I have stop this in it's tracks. You do NOT SPLIT an Oliver to get to the clutch! We lift the motor, turn it sideways in the frame, let it down enough to steady it,then lift the hydra power unit off with a cherry picker. If you aren't loosing fluid from the hydra power,it is most likely the rear main. BEFORE you go to the extreme of taking it out,you can get some adjustment in the linkage. I've taken some up that way before.Especially if the pedal is all the way up like you say. JUST DO NOT even think about splitting that tractor. It is NEVER necessary to do ANY work on an Oliver.
