How well does the conversion work out on a Farmall C 1948. Is the kit on this site a good one?

I put a Genesee on my Oliver 1550 last fall. I think it was around $95. So far so good.

This site sells the Pertronix units; pretty much "the only game in town" unless you buy an exotic "hot-rod racing" 2-piece unit with a big "spark box" unit EXTERNAL to the distributor.

(In other words; Pertonix is what the "other guys" are selling; too.)

Electronic ignition is nothing more than an electronic triggering rotor and module that triggers or makes and brakes the circuit to the coil which then creates the spark voltage. Using the same coil , wires and plugs , this unit will do no better than the points type ignition until you get over 6000 rpm. Why do you think the sellers that claim all the gains also tell you to purchase the "matching" Hi Po coil , Hi Po wire set etc , etc?? Put this same stuff on a points ignition and you will get the same gains. The points don't carry the secondary (high) voltage. Usually less than 12 volts. Spend your money on good coil , wires , plugs and carb and starter tune up and forget the EI. Also check back through these pages for the unfortunate ones asking why their EI modules "blew" and they have no fire. Points for tractors / EI for hot rods.

I agree with you on what you say, ASSUMING the points system is working to optimum performance which in my case they often didnt. We would get condensation in the distributer that we would have to wipe out so that it ran properly. We also had to replace points every year or so. Now we dont have any of that.
