hi, i got a question regarding a 1975 chevy k20 im looking at. my grandpa had a 73 and it rusted really bad because gm went to thinner sheet metal for a few years to save money. is it true? and would the 75 be fine or would that be the cheaper construction also. the owner said there isnt much rust on it for a 75

"There isn't much rust for a 75". Yep, that means ya can't see all the way through the box to the other side . The chunks haven't fallen out yet. LOL Look it over pretty good. It took them 14 years to get a truck that the top front of the box would line up parallel to the back window. Every durned one of them hung down on the right side.

The 73 to 87 truck design had many nooks and cranny's and the porous caulk would shrink allowing mud and salt to collect. After two years they'd be full of holes. In 1978 I bought and still have a 76 one ton for $250. What a deal if you don't mind a few holes. Imagine today getting a 2005 pickup for $250. GM is still suffering that low quality image. Bottom line, if used as a work truck, it'll rot fast.

That is when they took the lead out of the paint and they rusted right though the paint. Either get a newer one or pre 1966

My 75 pretty much fell apart from rust. Course I drove it where there was a lot of salt the first year or two. Got a 72 that is as solid as the day it was made. YMMV.
