I thought some of you might like to know that a somewhat unusual tractor is currently 4-9-07 for sale on Ebay.

It is a 1970s or 1980s Tuff-bilt designed for vegetable farming.

No bids as of yet but a 3,000 mile round trip for me or I"d bid as quick as lightning. It is in Gettysburg, PA. Didn"t your wife want to see Gettysburg anyway?

Item #130098037134 A little over 2 days left to bid if you are interested.

If anyone has one closer to Kansas and it is reasonable I"m in the market for it or a Bolens Ridemaster, maybe an Allis G, but don"t think I could afford one of those.

Is that a rear engine job? I'm not going to search ebay for it. If it's what I think it is,there was a dealer in Grant Mi that sold them in the 80s for use on the muck. Just a new replacement for the Allis G.

There's been several Ridemasters that sold cheap recently out your way. One for $150 and another for $350. I would of bought both of them but the sellers both refused to get involved in any shipping arrangements - and I'm in New York. I own three of them - great little culivating machines.

A few weeks back I bid over $1,000 (Ebay) on one located in Iowa and finally let it go as it wasn"t complete. I don"t think it was missing much, but they are so rare around here that they just simply aren"t available.

Am toying with the idea of building one with a transaxle unit from an old lawn tractor.

Perhaps I was just born in the wrong part of the US.

A Ridemaster sold for $253 in Washingon not long ago - Ebay # 290080398480.
Shortly before that a Ridemaster in Iowa sold for $150. I was watching them closely for several reasons. The sellers would not help in arranging any sort of shipping so I couldn't buy. But, I had a farmer local to me with a nice Ridemaster in his barn. He wanted to sell it to me for $650 and I refused. So, he told me to watch the two Ridemasters on Ebay - at that time - to prove his point on how valuable they were. Boy, was I glad they went cheap. Shortly after, I bought his Ridemaster for $200. Also bought a real nice Planet Junior with sulky for another $200. I think the grass always "seems to be greener" on the other side of the fence. But . . . I collect small 1 - 2 - 4 wheeled - and tracked tractors - I've got over 200 of them and am always looking for bargains in original condition. When it comes to rare stuff - I'm always finding more on your side of the country - not mine in New York State. We do, however, have a lot of Bolens FMC stuff along with many Allis Gs - they were popular. Also many Standard Monarchs, Twins, Walshes, etc. But there are some types that never show up on my side of the country.

I have seen 2 at auctions around here. I think they were an attempt to improve upon the Alls G. I think there was a website of somebody in Alabama making new ones. I don't know if they are still active or not.

They were made here in my hometown in the 70's I understand they are in the process of re-tooling and starting production at their new home in Alabama.
A real handy plowing tractor. A Allis G with a hydro transmission.

Another one is----- in reply to Joe M(GA), 04-09-2007 18:13:47
Another one similar to the new Tuff-bilt is Saukville made in Saukville, WI. It is extremely stylized after the Tuff-bilt in my opinion.

Why not go to a 9n or 2n or a TO20 or TO30 which will also let you cultivate by removing the tines from one side as it makes it so easy to hook up and get some work done in minutes. And you can also still find some single bottom plows in both FERGUSON and FORD and the same for the cultivators. I have a 1720 Ford which beats the "N" series, but having the implement behind you just isn"t the same as being able to look down and really see up close what is happening. With a 3 pt. implement you look around to hazard a glance and you can easily get off course.

I would really like to be able to see into my planter boxes to see how much seed is left, etc.

Both tractors have their places, but more and more I wish I had my implement easier to see.

I just learned that this tractor has a category O implement hook up. Another has said the Tuff-bilt has more power than the Allis G he has.

I love my 1720 Ford, but it needs a companion. lol

Few older row crop tractors around our area. in reply to mj, 04-09-2007 16:41:59
So much of Kansas has always been in wheat production that there aren"t many of the old row crop tractors around. As an example, the farm I grew up on never saw a tractor with a 3 pt. until I bought a 1070 Case in 1977.

My 1720 Ford I don"t think would fit underslung implements well if at all.

That might be the case in Western Kansas, but in NE Kansas the row crop tractors have ruled supreme since the the Farmall Regular. Don't even see many "Wheatland Specials" around here. You also don't see many smaller tractors from the 40s, 50s and 60s like the N series Fords (although they seem to be appearing from somewhere), the offset series Farmalls or Allis D10-D14. Makes them go really high at auction (especially Cubs).

We hang out at the same places, saw your post on another site too. :)

I have a 1720 also, was loading manure this morning with it & hauling out spreader loads on the frozen ground in the am. This afternoon I had to haul in a calf & chase the cow in to see it - ground finally melted, & I was getting a little owrried about that under frame clearence for a while! :)
