What brand kneepads are best?

Been working on equipment of some type all my life and though I know I'm still a youngster to some I'm pushing 40 and my knees just aren't what they used to be. I often find myself down on my knees under or on a piece of equipment while working on it. If I'm gonna be in one place for awhile I've got a piece of foam I lay down for padding but that doesn't do any good when I'm not working in a fixed spot. I'm hoping some of ya'll have tried the various kneepads available and can stear me in the right direction to find the best one for my purpose. One thing I don't believe I want is one with a hard shell because I figure they'll tend to slide around if I'm actually kneeling on a steel panel on the machine. It's hard enough to keep balanced and keep from sliding off sometimes when I'm in an awkward position, so I don't need any help there... I don't think I'd mind one with a jell cushion as long as the jell pack was protected from puncture by rocks, protruding metal, etc. I definately want one that will stay put on my knee when I'm moving around. Even if it has 10 straps and 10 more buckels I don't care as long as it stays put. So, any ideas on which brands to try would be greatly appreciated.

Go to Sears an spend what it takes to get the best ones. At 60 years old an after 3 operations on one knee an two on the other I've got to have em to work. Kneeling on catwalk grateing to do millwright work on 12 hour shifts. It's not what I do all the time, but with out em I'd have to find something else.

I've been useing knee pads for years. Many brands , styles to choose from. Most all of them are soft on the knees. Most all of them loosen up , and slide down and around. Most all of them pull your pant leggs up , and the seat of your pants down. Now I'm going to tell you what you want in knee padds. 1.) Dell (WA) is correct. You want hard shell knee pads. The only time you're going to slide with them is if your on a grade , on ice. You will keep sliding down the grade. You don't want the hard shell that takes on the look/shape of a painted turtle shell , unless you're working out side in winter,and wearing carharts. You want the shell which is kind of formed around your knee a little (I have both). In other words , you want the knee padds where the padding looks like a socket for your knee to fit into. 2.) Gel , or soft foam inners. Either one is fine. 3.) You don't want the knee padds with the single strap , or the ones with double straps. You want the ones which have the double straps fastened into one big strap , and the one big strap goes around your legg , below the knee.I like the valcro stlye straps better than the buckles. Should you buy the knee pads I just described , you will , for the most part , eliminate all the knee pad problems I first mentioned in this post. Now where to buy them; Go to SEARS. They're around $20.00 - $25.00.

Went to walmart in the gardening section, have some knee pads there with gel in them and couple straps, work real good for me.

I just went to my local Home Depit and bought a pair of the cheepies when I put in a new floor in my kitchen. They seamed to do the job. I think my knee's are going to be my weak point. just need a little help getting up anymore from working on my knee's too long. At almost 65 I guess I am lucky that is my only problem. Stan

Wayne..... ...I'm with you, kneesies ain't what they used to be. Surprizingly enuff, I recommend HARDSHELL neepads 'cuz they don't soak water/oil and you don't feel that gravel nubbies. My pads have elasticized velcro strap'ems. I un-zip the top straps when kneeling so I don't cut the circulation off. Use top & bottom straps when walkin' round so they don't flop and fall down around yer ankles. And my pantsies stay so clean (grin)..... ..Dell

Knelt on a small rock yesterday; still hurts. Go to your nearest skating store and ask for full knee protectors. They're comfortable and if anything, too big. (I don't know if "skateboarding" is still a proper term. "Street surfing"?) To answer your unasked question: "don't need the pads, just gonna bleed the brakes." Right.

Had mamma sew pockets in the knees, I could add and adjust until I hit the right combo. Tried straps and elastic and it caused circulation problem or pads fell to ankles.

Only downside was they looked wierd, but sure were comfy and always there.

The older you get the more you are willing to spend (time and money) for comfort.

My wife patched the knees of a pair of my coveralls years ago, and I came up with the idea of adding several thicknesses of heavy cloth to the patched area. It worked great!

Now as soon as new coverall knees are getting thin, I have her add the extra cloth. Polar fleece works the best. I wish they came like that brand new.

I don't really care what my coveralls look like--they are to keep me warm and my clothes underneath cleaner. But I do enjoy the extra padding when I have to do something on my knees.

I have tried using several different types of strap on knee pads, but found them hot, sweat producing and uncomfortable. The padded coverall knees worked much better for me and cost almost nothing. Luckily, my wife enjoys sewing and is willing to help me out.
