Has anyone ever had any luck getting rings on pistons unstuck without taking it out of the block? After taking the head off, #1 piston looks as if the compression rings are stuck. Cyl. wall is bright where oil ring runs, but has carbon buildup where compression rings should come up to. The other 3 cyls look good. Any advise or hints are welcome. Thanks in advance for any reply..

Walt is probably right, but you can try something called Marvel Mystery Oil(sounds weird but it sometimes works and is pretty inexpensive) Fill the cylinders with about 1/2" and let set for a few days or a week or 2. The stuff is highly detergent and very penitrating. I've used it with some success. (you can look it up on the web)

Run it in the cyl, put in fuel 6oz per 10 gal. In oil 6 oz per 10 qts

I've had very good luck useing tranny fluid to free up rings but thats also with the head on. I've had more then one engine with very low compression reading and after a week of socking with tranny fluid had the reads come up to around what they should have been. Also tranny fluid cleans up the carbon and rust also

Pull her out its just about the only thing that can be done since you have to re hone that cylinder anyway.
