I am looking real hard at a JD 3130. can anyone tell me the good, the bad and the ugly?
The tractor looks well taken care of.
How about a range of value?
Thanks, Brian

We bought a 3130 at auction about 5 years ago with about 5000 hrs. on it. Paid $10500 cdn. We have put about 1000 hrs. on it since. It has a three point, dual remotes, hinson cab and a 158 loader with bucket and grapple. We use it for haying primarily, pulling a MF 1560 round baler and a Case/IH 9foot haybine which it seems to handle easily. Its a little hard starting in cold weather and so far the only repairs have been blown seals in the steering column and outerbearing and seal on the rear end. So far a very good tractor for us. We are in the southern Alberta area. Good luck.

Never seen a Canadian 3130 with a single port hydraulic remote. There was a transmission update part way through 3130 production. Purchasing a 3130 after the update would be prudent. Test the coolant for corrosion inhibiter. Check the trans oil filter and screen for clutch material or metal filings.

Hi Brian. Mitch here in Australia. I looked at a 3130 and concluded from comments here and general enquiries that the transmissions can be an issue. Need to talk to people who have owned them, I beleive they are very thirsty too. Very solid machine though.

Regards

Mitch

The book I have lists the 3130 a being made 1977-79 .
It calls it CDN 3130 which I assume is Canadian and being the same as a 2840 USA. Someone in Canada can verify this.

I have seen these tractors sold at auction in the south east and they have been used(well used in some cases) with new paint jobs. These auction tractors came from Europe. The ones from England have Lucas fuel filters instead of JD. JD dealers hate to have to try to cross reference parts, but of course the JD dealers are in the business of selling new tractors. I doubt if parts are that big a problem, but I have never owned one. As far as I know, the quality is the same as USA JDs. Oh, for some reason the Europeans have single outlet remote hydraulics with no down pressure.
