Do all these large tractor companies today still own the rights to the names of the past like, Advance Rumely, Huber, Minneapolis Threshing Machine Co., Rock Island, Happy Farmer, Aultman Taylor, Cockshutt, Oliver, Minneapolis Moline, etc....?

There are so many old companies that were bought out or went out of business. Who owns the rights the their names and logo's? Case, Agco, etc?

I might be full of hot air on this one, which is not surprising, but when a company is bought out, doesn't the purchaser have the choice to buy the trademark name along with the company? I think some companies might have been bought but the name was not. One of you might know something about this. Jim

You are correct some names were not sold with the company.
If you watch Golf the AT&T at Pebble Beach used to be the Crosby they did not get the name when he died and his widow wouldn't let them us it along with AT&T or any other company name so its not called the Crosby anymore.
A company in Arizona has obtained the rights to the Packard car name and they have built at least one car so far. Walt

Some of the real old ones could have lapsed. There are websites to do research on trademarked names, but I lost them when my computer was stolen, and the old patent attorney friend who gave them to me has passed on.

Yes someone owns rights to all those brands. The few I know of Case I think is owned by Fiat which also owns IH,New Holland and others. Agco owns several of the old companies. Allis Chalmers and not sure, but I think they own Massey Ferguson now as well and several others. Maybe someone else will know more about it than I do and will inform us all.

AGCO didn't get the chance for Allis Chalmers after the Deutz debacle. There is a company in Texas that is operating under the Allis Chalmers banner as Allis Chalmers Energy, they do oil field equipment.

Bet some one owns them. Heard the other day about a lot of name brand tools--name is now owned by Home Depot.

Good question, but I expect that someone wons all the naming rights.
Interesting to note that the Mccormick name was either sold or liscenced lately...
