What is the best way to remove vinyl decals without messing up the paint? I am referring to the type that is put on with water. Mine are the wrong ones and I also have some on that don't belong on my tractor.

Hey Gary, when I first read the post I thought maybe you were removing your base sticker from your pickup. You don't have to have it anymore to get on the base, just an id card. I'd try the hair drier or heat gun and plenty of patience with those stickers on painted metal. Either that use a wire wheel on a buffer and repaint.

sandblast works great. Also takes off any rust or spatted bugs.

Gary we always just used a hair dryer to heat them up and pull them off.

Heat gun, or borrow your wifes hairdryer. After removal, rubbing alcohol will remove the remaining residue without harming the paint.

Get a rubber wheel from your local auto parts place. The one we have used, was put on a drill and go to it. I work for the roads department and we remove the decals from vehicles before the surplus sale and it removes them all. Whether there one year old to 15 years old and doesn't bother the paint.

Gary, I have had good luck with an aerosol 'goof off'. It was slow going, but once you got it started, you could spray under it and make a little better progress. The only thing I noticed about the paint afterwards was you could see the letters outline-I think that was from sun fade around the decal-they had been on for probably 4 years when removed. Greg
