I picked up a 2N Ford a while back that runs but it hasn"t had the best care. It started and ran OK but I was going to give it basic tuneup. When I checked the plugs it had 3 different brands. I went to NAPA and got a new set of Champions, changed the oil, cleaned the air filter, etc.. When I was done it wouldn"t start. It would kind of fire but it wouldn"t run. Well to make a long story short, after double checking everything and not finding anything wrong I screwed the old plugs back in it and fired right up. Hmmmm Now that it was warm I put the new plugs back in it started and ran. Next day when it was cold-no start. Put the old plugs back in and fires right up.

I guess that I"ll go get another set of new plugs and try something other than Champion this time.

Any other ideas?

Many years ago, I used nothing but Champion. For about the last fifteen years I wouldn't use them if they were given to me. I've had nothing but trouble with them including the problem that you had. The exception to that is the D21 and small engine plugs or if you have a high output coil in very good condition. Others may have had better luck.

Others to try: Denso W14L or W16L. Have some plugs of all brands eventually being bad new out of box. It just happens to all of them. Dropped too hard in shipping or a bad batch made. Return them to dealer with complaint or direct to Champion. I've returned several to Champion direct though and all you get is another crummy replacement and not a refund.

The reason some one put differant plug in the cylinders maybe because a few of the cylinders foul the plugs faster then the others. So you may have 2 or 3 differant heat ranges on those plugs. My self I would try a set of auto lite 437s in it

Most auto parts places like to sell Champions but what you do not know is that Autolite spark plugs have a two year garentee if they foul out or get old in less than two years you bring them back and they will replace them. I would also take the time and check your magneto cap Or Distributor cap. Some time they could be cracked and they will act up only in certain times. It could be that it is only makeing enough spark to jump the old gap in the old plug and not the new plugs. I have had this promblem with my Allis Chalmers when the old plugs just start to break down after two years of hard use. A little bit of my thoughts for you I hopoe they might help Brent
