Hi Gang;
This is the home made implement that was making all the dust on Island farm. Based on the design of an implement that landscapers use to smooth the soil surface. It will gather soil from high places and dump it into hollows, and the weight will help in consolidation & clod crushing. Most large stones are rolled along and are dumped on the headlands where they are collected & carted off. They dont want stones on the surface which could be picked up by the forage harvester.

Yep that little one would stir up enough dust I suppose. Welding shops started making drag floats here years ago from I beam and sliced well casing pipe for the one or two blades on them and put a drawbar across your 3 point arms to raise and lower it with wheels on back side. They got to making them 24 foot or wider even but those don't go down the county roads or highways well or thru bridges.

Hi David, here in Kentucky, we call that a drag. Some folks have them made like that one, and others like myself have them made from rail road ties held together with large bolts and old disk harrow spacer spools.

Yep,

Here that would be a yard drag.

However, I can certainly understand what they are trying to do. Kinda built along the lines of a field float once used for flood irrigation.

Allen, what part of Nebraska are you in? I use to hunt pheasants in the south east corner. Over around Shickley,Beatrice. Also hunted Quail down on the Little Blue River.

Allen here we use them on plowed ground for the same reasons that David stated. Especially on sod ground that sometimes doesn't turn over good. This pulled over it in the same direction the plow traveled will turn it on over and fill in all the low places. It really makes ground work good if done very early in season and left to lay for a while. Then the disk will do a fine job on the ground. I rotate crops and plow a lot of sod here for tobacco.

I hate running a disc in plowed ground, but agree it's gotta be done sometimes due to the "belting/roping" of the darned sod. Fact is, I gotta do just that here in a day or two; not looking forward to it at all. :>(

Normally, I just use the packer and plant.

I wish I had some big wide open fields like that. Now I am wanting to move west. 4 or 5 old farmalls would look good following behind that one. Or even my 666.

Allan, Looks like you could use slightly wider front tires for that job. Nothing like falling into rut after rut.
