$30 later, where did that come from? These caps have been free for a LONG time. I got my 2 some 5 years ago.

It says this on the site:

After 5/31/2007 you will be able to purchase a replacement gas cap from your local CASE IH® parts distributor.

I got one of those years ago for a 706G. It was supposed to prevent fires by letting the vapors out so no pressure in the tank or something like that. My gas consumtion went way up because it let it evaporate away while the tractor sat.

All tanks have to have a vent. With out a vent they would pressure feed the carb when the tank heated up from the hot engine. If the tank never got hot a vacuum would form and no gas would flow. Many tractor operators have been sprayed with gas when they opened a hot pressurized tank and the gas has ignited and burned them. The new caps have a check valve that prevents gas leakage if the tractor is rolled over.Ever leave a partly filled plastic gas can in the sun and watch it swell up when the vent is closed.

They are about as ugly a thing as I have seen. Worth every penny of free.

If you don't like this style cap, you don't need to order one. I posted this for people who do want them.
