is there any harm in putting on slightly larger front ribbed ag tires for my tractor? It now has 6.5 x 16 and would 7.5 x 16 be OK or will it cause more stress on steering parts? It's a MF 165 diesel - no loader. I liquid fill and figured the bigger front tires may help a bit. I need 2 new front tires anyways. thanks Gents.

We had a 165 Hi-Arch with a loader and 7.50x16 tires on the front. They made the front end sit high and made the tractor steer in a strange way. I replaced them with 7.5Lx15 tires.

I had 11L16 wagon tires on the front of my MF-135 for a few years. Took 8" wide rims but didn't break anything and it kept the narrow tires from mashing down into rutts they made when I had a lot on the loader. Actually the wide tires often steered eaiser than the narrow tires because they weren't sunk in the dirt.

When I moved the loader to my JD 4020, I took the rims and mounted 11.00-16 in place of its 7.60-16 and I think its front will also last longer because these tall tires dont' snag in plow furrows when going across the field.

Your don't want to get the front tires too large and get the front end of the tractor higher than the rear.It will burn extra fuel because you will always be driving up hill. The larger tires can reduce front end stress. A larger dia tire rides smoother over rough ground.

WOW! That just set the wheels to spinning! (pardon the obvious pun) Now we can solve the fuel crisis. Just run SMALLER front wheels on everything. That way, we're running DOWNHILL all the time and we can coast, saving millions of gallons of fuel.

Probably won't hurt it a bit, but those Masseys have kind of a light duty front end under 'em.

Don't know how the stress of a loader would react to the difference.

A 7.50X16 is about 3-1/2" TALLER as well as 1" (+) WIDER than a 6.50X16. 100 series Massey's are a little "light" in the wheel bearing department, so that may be an issue. The real sticker will be with rims. You can mount the 7.50X16 on the existing stock rims, but they'll end up lacking enough offset to keep the sidewall away from the top of the spindle. BTDT, changed back to 6.50's.

thanks for the advice. I'll stick with the 6.5 x 16.

depends on how wide your rim is. 7.50 16's will also be a lot TALLER than the 6.50 16's. If your rims are 6 inches wide, that's perfect for a 7.50 tire. if it is a 5 inch rim, it's going to look like a balloon.
