The 601 Series was offered in a variety of configurations. Each configuration had it's own model number. Your model number is 641 and tells me it has a pto, three point hitch, 4 speed transmission. The number under that is the serial number. The diamonds indicate the type of cylinder sleeves originally installed in the engine. I'm a little fuzzy on that detail, but I believe the diamonds sayd it has .090" cast iron sleeves. The number tells us it was built in April 1962...one of the last of the x01 series before Ford switched to the 2000/4000 tractors later that year. All 601 series tractors had either a 134 cubic inch, overhead valve gas engine or a 144 cubic inch diesel engine. If it had a diesel engine, your tractor's model number would be 641-D, so I assume you have a gas engine. All of the above assumes your tractor still has its original transmission. Since the numbers are stamped directly on the trans case, if you swap out the transmission, you lose your original numbers and inherit whatever numbers happen to be on the junkyard unit you install in its place.
