Corn sure could use a drink here in N IL. If I remember right, in 2005 it started out real dry during planting and stayed that way all summer. I hope we're not headed for another one of those. That'd sure change the outcome of that 93 million acres or corn...and the markets too.

It's starting to look like 2005 here too. Corn needs a drink and I'd hate to set my tobacco just to watch it wither in the field.

catrpillar guy, I'm with you.It should have been 5% less acres in corn, not 15% more than last year.Weather ethanol is a crock or not is yet to be seen.Anything that makes the price of corn go up is a good thing.Planting 15% more acres in corn is not one of them. We had our chance and blew it.When oil is high will O.P.E.C. increse production? We need to take a page from there book on keeping the price high.Everyone that planted only one more acre of corn than last year only needs to look in the mirror to see who is to blame for the price of corn going down. And,it is going down.

We need to plant less and forget about the government also it will keep the price up. Just like back in 83 we could have maintained prices then but everybody went out to plant everything they could and rent more . This ethanol is just a crock to get the price down to nothing to keep the farmer on the government dependency. I for one will not be planting anything more than last year except maybe convert more to hay less to corn and beans.

Going to be interesting, the next 2-3 years, watching markets, land prices, rental rates. They are already starting to talk about needing an extra 5 million acres of beans, 3 million acres of corn for 2008 over this year.....

If they need an extra 8 million acres of crop ground, someone will have to stop building cities and new highways. Kinda hard to plant corn in concrete.
