Beans are all in here in Extreme Northern IN. Well, for us any ways. Here are the numbers.

679.9 acres
13 straight days
4 flat tires on the drill
305 gallons of diesel
1000+ bags of seed
1 starter solenoid
1 fan speed switch
3 wet spots with no problems
1 wet spot that ate the tractor and drill!

Now we wait till the barley is cut and double crop another 100 acres. Our corn is all in too.

Well... I don't know about a tea time break but on one of the weekends I also had to milk the cows twice a day and do all the chores by myself which takes most of the morning and I had mothers day and a softball game in there as well as a surprise party for the wifes uncle which shot most all of the sunday of the other weekend and half the saturday of that weekend too. So really it was only about 11 days worth of work. And actually the last day I only had 12 acres to go , 5 before I got stupid and went a bit too close to a wet spot, common sense should have kicked in when ducks flew outta the spot! So we are down to about 10 days of work. I have posted some of the pictures before and I know you have already seen them because you asked about the disks on the front of the drill. However, I do have more but need some time to upload them so I will post later.

Things in central IL are quickly wrapping up. I would say corn is complete and beans will be 90 percent plus by the weekend. I finished planting beans on sunday evening. The corn is all up and the what we planted back on april 21-23 is really getting some size to it and looking good. bill

Joe what population do you plant that you used 1000 bags of seed?

I plant 165,000 but use 18" rows with a Kinze planter.

We got a little rain break here but hope to finish tomorrow with the beans.120 acres to go.

I shoot for a final stand of around 180k, plant at about 200k with a germination of 90%. Sandy soils here. Average seed count was 2700/lb. Did have 200 bags at 2500/lb. So 1000 bags at 50 lbs gives us 50,000 lbs with 2700 seeds/lb or 135,000,000 total seeds. Divide that by 680 acres and you get 198.5k seeds per acre. 198.5k at 90% will yield a final stand of about 178.5k. 10 inch rows with a no-till drill. Used to use a 15' drill on 7.5" spacings but I like the 10" better and the 20' will polish off a few extra acres each day.
