It's always a pleasure to see the soil turned, listen to the equipment doing it's job, rocks and things bumping and squeaking against the disc's etc. We've had this place for over 40 years now, he's been at it probably 50 or more, I've seen alfalfa, corn, oats and wheat in this nice bottom field over the years, field holds it's moisture even when things get dry, which is not too often lately.

This place was all fields and hedgerows but most of the other fields have overgrown and are becoming forest again, say in 20 years or so.

He uses a 6 bottom, then either discs or cultivators, seeder, spray truck zooms around, won't see him out here again until it's time to pick

View from my deer stand taken last evening JD 4440 with a brand new set of disc's:

Same view, forget what model JD and seeder:

Eastern NY, Town of Brunswick, outside of the City of Troy, known for it's contribution to the industrial revolution, home of Uncle Sam, where the shirt collar was invented.

I've been to that air force base, closed now, delivered several trailer loads of lumber to a project right close to the gate many years ago.

The surrounding land is sloped, this is a field in a valley, not sure of the elevation, at the bottom, but the top of our place, in the background is about 650 feet above sea level. It's always been a healthy field, with some excellent soil. The rest of it was cultivated, there was quite a bit of land to work in the area, so some years he did not use our place, before you know it, forest again.

Best time of year, favorite month is May, the birds that now return to this place every year are really interesting, there are so many, I'm watching a nest of partridge eggs, so far so good, all kinds of hawks, owls, occasional eagle, and other birds of prey, abundant deer, sometimes a black bear or moose, (one of those spotted recently) bobcat too. Great place to hunt and enjoy, several hundred acres behind us are still cultivated, not sure for how much longer, some real nice views from those hills.

In front of the deer stand is a small creek, and a patch of imperial whitetail clover and grasses still quite thick, but I think I'd like to re-plant, 1st planting was '04.

Great pics. Looks like some of the country around Rome NY. Lived there a few years in the service, Griffiss AFB. Great hunting and fishing country. Ahh the memories. Bob

Great pics and a great job of conveying your feelings about the land, the season, farming, etc.
