taxes are the reason gas is so high here in ILL we have a gas tax a road tax then a sales tax right now with the hi prices the satte is getting about .28 cents per gallon with the sales tax alone at 8% it really adds up fast and the state says there broke BS

I dont see why we cant make enough of something else,ethanol,biodiesel,hydrogen,electricity,to cut way back on oil.There needs to be enough of something to keep them from lying all the time.Sure seems like these companies have less of an interest in the American consumers,they have us in a choke hold now and do whatever they want about,and dont much care about us poor folks out here.I think these companies are owned by other countrys,who bought them with our hard earned money,and the crooks that run them answer to some other countrys crooks instead of ours,or some of the crooks that ran Enron are running them since Enron is gone.Or the bunch of crooks running our country today are all corrupt and doing this because they are greedy hogs. Fuel prices ruin our economy every summer?Cant build a refinery?Tree huggers did this?Nobody is making them stop because they are all in it together,and we arent going to get the truth out of them.Its one big sneaking tax hiding as a fuel price increase and the hogs are all sharing it more likely.

I hate government monopolies, but at least here in Mexico, regular gas has cost $2.20 to $2.35 US for the last 7 years, diesel has been about $1.75 to $1.90.

I have a Ford Mustang 5.0... BUT It Sits in the Garage, I drive a FORD FESTIVA to Work, AND just about everywhere else too!prpbably 38-40MPG Gotta Love it.Larry KF4LKU

I don't know if it is true or not but I heard that the oil companies make 8 - 10 cents per gallon of gasoline. Taxes are 50 cents + per gallon. If this is true who is gouging you? "I'm from the government. I'm here to help you. Bend over." I know that small independently owned gas stations only make 4 - 6 cents per gallon they sell. Wonder why there aren't more independent stations?

They reported on the news last night that THEY WERE MAKING 40 DOLLARS A BARREL off oil, just wait till second quarter profits show up...

I figured it out the other day, it takes me a little less than a gallon each way to work, so it costs me $7 a day to get back and forth to work. It's 22 miles each way. Gas costs about $1.00 more per gallon now than it did in January, costing me $60 more a month just to get to work. I can't get a better job closer. I can't afford to buy a new car, because I still need a truck around here I and I can't afford a second one. We already have cut out what we can for extra driving. Wife car pools, we make our stops on the way home from work. We even stopped going out to eat, which we olnly did 2x a month or so.

well i call it greed. When billionares who have more money than they could ever spend in their life raise prices to get a billion more $ what do you call it? i doubt it cost them any more $ to pump oil out of the ground from an established oil field. how much does it cost to pump one gallon of crude out of the earth? probably less than 10 cents. and it doesn't cost them $2.90 to refine it and ship it.

True demand has grown. Supply has also grown. remember that vast oil deposit they found in the gulf of mexico a few years back? it has been tapped and producing every day. yet prices rise daily. on the today show matt lauer was interviewing the ceo of exxon, and he was saying that prices rise becaue of supply/demand and matt asked him how come yall had record profits the last quarter and the ceo didnt answer. Greed is what they call it down here.

Do the math. Supply & demand. As for greed? Would you personally sell an item for $2.00 when you could get $3.00. Some hypocrites on some other posts here. Current world reserves, cost to drill, pump, transport, refine & transport. Demand in the rest of the world including China & India. Don't forget there are other energy consuming, growing industrial & personal demands on this planet earth besides the US. I don�t know why but many Americans have no idea about the rest of the world except what they see on TV. Most of the known oil & gas fields are past peak production capacity. Or access is against environmental laws or just impractical. Biodiesel & ethanol may become fuel additives but can not ever be a sole energy supply for North America. Crude oil will have to be gradually replaced with coal gasification and/or oil producing algae raised in salt water/brackish water ponds in Southern States..

Gas was $1.85 per gallon in December.Today its $3.35 per gallon.Are you saying that demand went up that much in 5 short months?

Diesel is staying at $2.69 here.Last year it was 30 cents a gallon higher than gas.Something funny is going on.

I think that the hedge funds have alot to do with high oil prices.Alot of speculation going on.

I guess if you are making billions in record profits the last thing you are going to do is spend a few hundred million to build a new refinery to keep up with demand, when you can continue to cut supply because people are willing to pay the price at the pump.

I wonder what they"d say if I started pulling into work on a horse....Gas prices are ridculas...I"m working two jobs plus and was just starting to get ahead of the game before gas prices sky rocketed up!

How about if you just rode a horse to the "convenience" station. You can then go inside and purchase chips and a soda. Drink the soda and eat the chips right there on the premises, until the horse hoists tail and lets go. Then leave!

If anyone asks you "What's with the horse?" you can point to their gas price sign .

DON'T clean up the droppings, either! (You are sending them a message).

They'er not trying to do anything.they've already done it. I drive to and from work,and that's about it.

My wife drives a 98 Durango. She wants something that's easy on gas. I've tryed to tell her she can buy alot of gas for what a new car will cost. She did the math. She can buy a new car and save enouph on gas to make the payment. I guess she will have a new car soon.

What gets me is to watch gas priced rise and fall over twenty five cents in one day.

Your telling me that the gas in their tanks is only making about for to six cents a gallon?

Whats the person supplying the oil making if the gas station dealer is only making four to six cents a gallon?

Im refering to the middle man who buys the fuel and resells it to the local corner gas dealer.

We as consumers are under the dirt on this issue and we will always pay the price even if were ten dollars a gallon because the United States Of America is about greed and the people that live in it do not know how to slow their Hummers and Suberbans down pulling thier mini ships and mini houses along with all their play toys.

I for one am not a rich Man.

I have a family of three and we just get by on threads each month.

It wont be long before the threads snap and we will have to find another way.

What about a depression?

Do you think anyone now of days could withstand another drepression like the dust bowl days?

Im sure I made someone mad over my reply but I dont care because thats the exact way I feel about the goverment and the tree huggera of this United States Of America who continue to do nothing but sit on their bottom sides and make money and protest over not drilling for what we need or building facilities that we need.
