I hate I missed that topic yesterday but I was out of town.I have a 351 W in my F250 4wd that has 170K on it and still runs great with a Holley and a C6 and no overdrive.I wished it had a good overdrive in it but a C6 is one tough transmission.I am getting 10-12 mph which sucks with gas at 3.09 here but I like driving that ole brute.Mine is really peppy for no more cubic inches it has.Guess it is the cam and Holley, not sure but something works good and it idles good and smooth. Was told a 400 M block crank could be installed to make a half an inch stroke to it making it a 400 small block.Might look into that one day.

Needs a lockup torque convertor and overdrive. Then tune the carb using an O2 sensor to ensure the mix is about 15 to 1 at cruise. Idle as lean as it can go without stalling or missing. Rough idle is fine. Electric cooling fan saves fuel otherwise used to blow air when it isn't required.

Use machined Dodge 360 rods with a Ford 400 crank in a 351W block and it comes out to a pretty mean 400. Someday I wouldn't mind putting one together for my Ranger, it would be a nice compact unit.

The C-6 is a good tranny but saps alot of power to turn, one of those things that you can't have it all.

It is peppy because of that C6 tranny. It is one of if not the best auto tranny ever used in pick up trucks. They can even be pull started due to having two pumps in them. I am not sure about that crank swap. The M engines are big blocks, The Windsor is a small block. I haven't tried it, but I dought it will work.

The 400 crank in a 351W block workes well to make a long stroke 400 CI Windsor, the crank is not a drop in fit as some machining is required and special rods/pistons are required. You can make a fairly economical 400W by purchasing a 'kit" from one of the engine buiulders like PAW. It will come as a fitted and balanced assy ready to install in your block or with a PAW supplied block if any grinding is necessary and you dont want to tackle that part.

I know a Chevrolet 400 sm(bored .100 flattop pistons and headers)feels like a big block powerwise and the Windsor should feel just as good stroked a half an inch. The machine shop that I just used on a 400 M block said he could make it work,I might hunt up some parts to get ready for my rebuild.

Check out Jegs i think that they have a few stroked options. My son and I are doing a 347 from a 302 for an 88 mustang and we're going fuel injected. Trick flow makes some nice twisted wedge heads.
We had a local engine builder do our machine work and assembly. that way we get a warranty.
