A while ago someone on this forum told me the trick to reorienting the case of an alternator. I thought I had printed it but I can't find the paper, and I couldn't find it in the archives either. I think it was to take the 4 bolts out and lift the pulley side up just a little and spin till it lines up right. I should say this is a delco alternator. Thanks again

Mike

loosen the 4 bolts a couple turns, gently tap the rear case with rubber mallet till it seperates, dont get a wide gap in the case halfs otherwise the brushes will slip of the end of the armature and you'll have to take it apart. once its loose, remove the bolts, spin the rear case where you want it, and tighten it up. if you goof and the brushed drop, pull the rear cover off, look for tiny holes by the brushes in the case, push the brushes back in, slide a straightened paper clip in each brush from the outside to hold em and reassemble, then slide the paper clips out.
