One of my neighbors has horses, another has 5 acres of fescue and weeds. The one with the horses paid $100 to another fellow to cut and bale the five acres for a yield of 38 square bales that he had to pick up in the field. He said he was glad to get it.

Last year I took some small squars of timothy to a hay auction. I got $1.70 per bale.If I had stuck around I would of no saled it.That was the last time I took hay to that auction. All the buyers want to do is steel from you.

I put a sign at the end of my drive "Hay for sale" and sold all I had for $4.25.When asked about the high price,I would tell them with fuel at $3.00 a gal and twine at $34.00 a bale, the days of $2.oo hay are gone.I could of sold alot more if I had had it in the barn.

Up here in the foothills SW of Denver, CO it's going from $8 to $9 a bale. I think I'm going to up my price 50 cents a bale to cover gas too.

Well, I don't know what it's selling for here, but at $3.50 to $4.00 a gallon, the price of my hay is going to be substantially higher than last year. Going take the same amount of fuel, I can't economize on fuel usage. Already did that! Can't afford to give the product away. Fuel, material costs, machine costs, parts, labor all higher!

And lets not forget supply and demand. Here in WI, a lot of hay ground is now in corn. I'm down 40 acres myself.

I normally get around 5.00 picked up at barn or plus delivery. I heard 15.00 a piece in florida. I hauled some to virigina last fall for 6.50/bale plus 2.00/loaded mile to deliver and help unload. around 200 bale load.

Bought some straw at just under 4.00 a bale.Hay is selling for 3.50 a bale here.High slaughtering fees and 3.50 hay will stop most people from raising a steer or 2.Layer pellets are going for 10.50 per 50 lb.I usally keep 25 hens and sell eggs but have only 6 hens now.I repair fence chargers and notice local business has been down since high slaughter fees started. It costs so much to buy and raise a piglet now that many people just buy their pork on sale.Same thing has happened with raising meat poultry.I cant afford to feed my cattle 5.00 hay. When I cant cut my own hay the cattle will be gone.Watch food prices take off this summer.Mexicans have seen corn meal prices double.

I sold 100 bales last year for $2.00 bale, delivered. This year I may up my price to $2.50 with the increase in fuel.

I would charge more, but I only sell a small quantity to cover my operating cost for fuel and twine, not to make money from my daughters friends parents.

I charge $3.00 for straw, just trying to clean out the barn from the last three years.

Average in my area on the west side of Indianapolis is $4 - $5 for straw, $3 - $5 for hay depending on grass/alfalfa and the quality. Rounds were fetching $30 - $35.
