Allen in NE.

Good morning. Just caught up reading 'tractor talk' and a few other forums... went through your post and the comments, all of them, regarding the broken tie rod on your IH. I want to say 'thanks for YOUR post and pics'. One way I look at this is that your time and intrest has quite possably saved my buttt, as this tractor is not a priorty with me. however, this has prompted me to change out the VERY worn and loose ball joints and king pins on the front of my Ford 4500, (as one comment mentioned). I use/abuse this thing in the construction and maintaince of my acreage, (very hilly).

Glad you are safe.

As far as the comments are concerned..... I would say there right on mark.

....clue phone, it's for you.

Thanks again for sparing me trouble 'down the road'...sl

Same thing happened to my brother with the same machine. he was disking a field at a pretty good clip. And when the front wheels splayed out the spindles snapped off and the frontend dove into the dirt. And he ended with a good egg on his forehead when it slamed into the roof mounted ac unit. I guess that the tierod was only holding on by a couple threads.

Well,

Even at this late date in my existance, it tought me to check that front end each and every time I think I gotta take it out on the road.

Darn thing scared the poop outta me and I wasn't even moving. Just the idea of what "might have happened" took me into a cold sweat.

As far as the comments go, that's the nice part about this site. We all have different beliefs and can sound them as we wish (was that diplomatic enough?). :>)

Allan
